Run
Comments: I wanted to control my pace and use my Garmin to keep me on plan. I wanted to run a sub 51 minute race and needed to run 8:10 per mile. BAM. Usually, I jack rabbit out of the start and bonk at the end. The Garmin helped me keep my opening pace under control. I struggled on the second hill in mile 4 but made a decent recovery in mile five before starting to tank during the last mile. However, I found just enough juice to finish strong and score a personal best. What would you do differently?: I experienced chills during the second half of the race so I figure I was a little dehydrated. I took in water at the aid stations, but the cups were not very full. I don't carry a hydration device but I may need to change that. I also need to drink more the day before, which I thought I did. As for the running, I'm good with my performance. I do need additional speed work and tempo runs at my pace. Post race
Warm down: Stretched with the Luke's group. Then I indulged in all the free food. What limited your ability to perform faster: Nothing really. I hit my plan but I do need to thing about my hydration. Event comments: I love this race. The Arboretum is a fantastic location and it always has its fall exhibit on full display. It's a well-run race with fantastic volunteers. I recommend this race to everybody. Last updated: 2009-09-14 12:00 AM

Work up at 5:00. I had a Cliff bar and some water. Packed up the gear and hit the road by 5:45.
Warm up with my Luke's group. I couldn't be prouder. We had 100% attendance in our group. For many, this was their first ever race. Others, their first 10K. We ran about 8 minutes and did our stretching routine. I then hit the port-o-potty, had a gel, and ready to giddy-up.
