Swim
Comments: It took me a couple hundred yards to get clear of everyone and comfortable in the water. After that it was not too bad. What would you do differently?: Still need to work more on sighting in the open water. I tend to swim away from the buoys in any of the open water swims I do. Transition 1
Comments: I was positioned close to the swim exit but pretty far from the bike start. I had to run quite a bit in the bike shoes which seemed to take some extra time. What would you do differently?: Nothing really. I felt pretty good about this transition. Bike
Comments: Like I said, I feel the course was fairly hilly. We did have one section where apparently a car accident had happened that had fresh oil on the road. We had to pass it slowly on the way out and had to get off the bikes and walk them, via the ditch, around the oil. What would you do differently?: Nothing really. I feel the bike went pretty well. Transition 2
Comments: Again with so many competitors I had to run quite a ways with the bike to get to my spot. Once there I got the shoes on and got going. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Good transition Run
Comments: Kept cool o.k. They had water which I could dump on my head and wet sponges that I put in my tri top. I did drink too much gatorade and water. After the race for about an hour I could just feel it all sitting in my stomach. What would you do differently?: Need to change my race nutrition for the run. Ended up with too much fluid just sitting in my stomach. Post race
Warm down: Crossed the finish line, found my brother and sister and sat down for a while. What limited your ability to perform faster: I feel that I pretty well performed to my limits. The only improvements I feel I could make might be a little faster swim and being able to run the full 13.1 miles. Event comments: Great race overall but you expect that out of any 70.3 branded race. Arrived at the site. Set up the bike to run transition as it was a different site than the swim bike transition. Walked down the hill to the bike transition. Aired up the tires and set up T1. Had to be out of transition area by 6:30 but my wave didn't start until 7:30 so I just relaxed and waited.
None really. Just tried to relax and get ready for a long day.
