Swim
Comments: I felt tight on the swim and didn't really get into a good rhythm or catch a draft for the whole swim. Not really sure what was up, but just felt sorta off. Think I was too lazy with my workouts the 2 weeks prior? Transition 1
Comments: Helmet on, wetsuit off, no problems... Bike
Comments: Well, overall not good. I had a really bad lower right back cramp within minutes of starting. Tried to bike through it for a while, but it was pretty painful and I'm certain it's because I made too large of adjustments to my position the week before [lesson learned this time about trying new stuff before/in a race:-)].Finally decided that raising my seat a bit may help so... Took about ~4 minutes to stop to readjust my saddle height/position. After the readjustment things felt better and were tolerable, but I was pretty out of it mentally and was content with just cranking along. Didn't have any idea of my speeds due to the magnet having fallen off of my wheel so I wasn't really pushing to maintain a specific pace. On the first loop went back and forth with a BT'r ?Matt? (didn't catch his screenname, but he said hi to me cause he read my post about my tats...) What would you do differently?: Not change stuff week of race, take it easier on the hills, etc... Transition 2
Comments: No issues. Helmet off, shoes on, off for the run. Run
Comments: Overall I was happy with my run given the time I had on the bike. I was excited to explore a new area and really like going around on the rolling and turning trails. Was clipping along at a good pace and feeling good with a smile on my face as I kept picking up and passing people. Really had to go to the bathroom by around mile 8 so given how things had already gone I didn't mind taking the ~2 minutes when I saw a bathroom to go and be comfortable for the end of the run. Well, it started raining soon after that and I was less happy for the remainder of the run... Wasn't horrible, but I just prefer to run in blazing heat with harsh conditions. Call me weird, but my favorite time to run in coastal NC was high noon during the summer:-) Post race
Warm down: None really. Had a fair amount of cramping in my hips due to being really cold and shivering my little rear off! Event comments: Definitely an event to take some lessons from. Far from the performance I would have wanted, but nothing to beat myself up about (at least not too much...) Last updated: 2009-09-25 12:00 AM

Normal routine. Up early, drank a shake, ate a banana... Car was packed so I got out and on my way to the event site.
None really. Just a quick spin on the bike to ensure things were in order (they were not... no magnet on the wheel for speed measurement).
