![]() Bike
Comments: Slightly disappointed with this pace, but since the roads were slick and the course was not closed to traffic, I think everybody was a little slower than they could have been. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: I got slightly lost out of this transition because my glasses had fogged up. ![]() Run
What would you do differently?: It is absurd that there were no mile markers, and so I had a lot left over at the end but I had no road to spend it on. I also do not believe that this was a full 5k. I think it was closer to 2.7 miles since after 3 minutes of running a volunteer said "2.1" miles to go. I also do not think it is possible that I ran 21:45 at the 5k. Still, I felt good running and passed some big guys. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Nothing. Walked around. Wished there was something to eat besides eggs and bacon. What limited your ability to perform faster: Had I known how long the run was, I could have pushed harder. But I am very pleased with how I did. But I am less pleased with the logistics of the race itself. Event comments: So my feelings toward this race are sour for a few reasons. First there was the unnecessary delay at the start. Then there was an overly long and not very clear explanation of the course as we were all freezing in our bathing suits in the rain. Third, the run course, while fun, had no mile markers and none of the volunteers knew what mile they were standing at. This is sort of absurd if you are at all planning to build to a strong finish. Fourth, there is no way that this was a full 5k. Fifth, the post-race food was not exactly what most post-race athletes want to eat: coffee, bacon and eggs. I think I am not alone in wishing that there were just some basics like bagels, cookies and gatorade. Finally, the awards were delayed more than an hour. While it is noble to wish to let the last athlete finish before handing out awards, it's not really a wise use of time, especially on a cold and rainy day. I have to say, I was expecting alot more with an $85 entry fee... Last updated: 2009-09-28 12:00 AM

This event was delayed to "wait out the rain." Of course, a look at weather.com would have indicated that we'd need to wait until the next day to outlast the rain. So the warmup was a short and cold swim around the lake.
