Total Time = 1h 20m 16s
Overall Rank = 23/182
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 3/20
Pre-race routine:

Slept 3 hours. Felt OK. Drove to venue. Unloaded stuff. Ate banana, bread and PB. Drank water and took a gel.
Event warmup:

Stretched, swam 50 meters. Stretched again.
Swim
  • 08m 6s
  • 547 yards
  • 01s / 100 yards
Comments:

Tried to go out with leaders. Made decent turn at first marker. Lost steam at around 350M. Regained form within 50 meters. Swam to edge and run 5 yards. 1st time in wetsuit.
Transition 1
  • 02m 6s
Comments:

Not a good transition as cap, goggles, and wetsuit all seemed to stick. Need more practice. Trouble clipping in at first, so pushed/pulled with one foot up the hill
Bike
  • 46m 55s
  • 15 miles
  • 19.18 mile/hr
Comments:

Tried to really pound it. Lungs felt good, but legs felt less strong.
What would you do differently?:

Need to train and work on the drops or get aero bars.
Transition 2
  • 01m 15s
Comments:

Felt moderately fast for me. Could try leaving shoes in next time. Tri-shirt and belt would help with maybe 15-20 seconds.
Run
  • 21m 57s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 04s  min/mile
Comments:

Legs felt weak at start. Got loose around 1 mile. Felt better as the run went on. Hard to pick-up pacers as people were spread out. Need to do some speed work, but generally felt OK with the run.
Post race
Warm down:

Went through line. Got water. Found hose and put it on my neck for 30 seconds. Then got an apple and part of a bagel. Hung out and met some folks. Congratulated others in transition area as gathered stuff and picked up the transport to the parking area.

Event comments:

Issues: Need a couple more people on the bike course to direct folks around the housing development. Also, the police on the bike course could have more actively directed us.

Nice course with hills. Nice lake with beach start. Tight transition area with hill immediately following mount line. Fun bike course if you don't take a wrong turn. Fun run course as you can see the whole race unfold in front of you.

I would do this race again.
