Run
Comments: Despite the race starting about 7 minutes late, I had a great run this morning. My half marathon training plan called for a 5k race today, so the HomeRun 5k was a good fit for this purpose. I was pleased with my pacing and energy management at this race. The race started getting hard for me around mile 2, especially with a slight upgrade on the course around the 2.25 mile point. I gave it a 100% effort and left nothing on the course. The weather was great for running fast - temps. in the low 50's, clear and sunny skies. What would you do differently?: Nothing that I can think of at the moment. Post race
Warm down: I did an easy 2 mile run then about 10 minutes of stretching. What limited your ability to perform faster: Specific training for 5k races. I ran this race since the training plan that I'm following for the St. Jude Memphis Half Marathon on December 5, called for a 5k race today. Event comments: This was the inaugural run for this event. I enjoyed it and thought the race organizers did a great job hosting it. It was a chip race with full results posted online by mid afternoon of the race day. Bar-be-cue, live music and refreshments were available to participants post-race. A local high school ROTC members provided race support, giving directions and handing out water at the 2 water stops on the course and at the finish line. I thought Snowden Grove Park was a great venue for a road race. The event had a nice small town feel to it. There were a lot of walkers in the field, even walking groups organized into teams who did fund raising for this event. Last updated: 2009-10-10 12:00 AM

Up at 6:30am, ate a bowl of oatmeal with a banana and wheat germ. Drank 8 oz of OJ on the way out the door at 7:25 for the 30 min. drive to the race site. I arrived at Snowden Grove Park at 8am, picked up my chip, used the restroom did some light stretching and got ready to warm up.
I did an easy run of the course in reverse direction to check the course profile and to note the mile marker locations. I picked up my pace closer to race pace during the last mile. I did some stretching after warm up, then ran 6-8 100 meter strides. 10 minutes before race start, I stopped by my car to shed my warm up jacket, and to disconnect my insulin pump. I made one last stop at the restroom, and did one more stride on my way to the start line.
