Swim
Comments: Had a rough time the first loop. Couldn't get my breathing in sync, and went way off course to the left due to poor sighting. Second loop was good and comfortable. Not a bad swim. What would you do differently?: Sight better, and relax at the start. Went out a little over-hyped, and it caused me to have a difficult first loop Transition 1
Comments: T1 was slow by design. This was my first Oly, and I wanted to take my time and try to start the bike with my HR down and relaxed. Should have gone a little faster, but I'm not too upset about it. What would you do differently?: Speed up T1 Bike
Comments: This waa TERRIBLE bike for me. My speed was not that far below my average on the last few sprints, but the overall feel and performance today on the bike still was just below par for me. I got passed a LOT, I could not get going, had trouble on the hills, and just had a bad day on the bike. Made the mental game tougher for me. What would you do differently?: Everything. But if you look at my logs for the last month, it is very telling. I have neglected the bike, and I paid for it today. It didn't help that I was on a borrowed bike that was the wrong size and had only been ridden by me for 10 minutes yesterday...but no excuses...I did not perform. Transition 2
Comments: Again, slow by design...plus I made a pit stop to the port-a-potty, so it added time to my T2. No big issues here. What would you do differently?: Faster, faster, faster Run
Comments: Well, what can I say...I'm still slow, but I was proud of myself for keeping a decent run pace (for me) after such a miserable day on the bike. It also helped that Aaron was so cool as to come back out on the course after he finished, find me, and run me in. What an awesome display of unselfish encouragement....thanks again, Aaron. What would you do differently?: Nothing yet....I've made good progress this year and I just need to put the miles in this offseason to get better. The run felt great for me, and I know that more improvement will follow. Post race
Warm down: Some sports drink, water, a couple bananas. Visited with JeepFleeb, Zia Cyclist and Ghart2. What limited your ability to perform faster: Bad bike segment, beginner status, and a big (but shrinking) spare tire around the mid-section! More training will bring more improvement. Event comments: This was a great race, and I am excited and incredibly proud to have completed an Oly. Looking forward to more races of this distance in the future. A great day, with great friends, at a great race....what more can I say? Volunteers were very good today, all drink stations had water and sports drink, and the event was very well-organized, especially considering the record number of participants and a slightly crowded course. Kudos to Ahmed and his staff for a great race. Last updated: 2005-10-02 12:00 AM
