Swim
Comments: After getting kicked in the face and wiping off a bloody nose, and recovering, my breathing seemed off almost the entire swim. I was annoyed by the lady who kept grabbing my thigh and pulling me down everytime she did a stroke...until I finally just let her go in front of me. It was an okay swim but I felt like my rhythm was not right and I couldn't seem to feel "right" about it. What would you do differently?: I think mostly I need more training with that many other people in the water with me. I may need to find a spot along one of the sides rather than in the middle. Transition 1
Comments: I struggled with getting my bike off the rack but other than that, the transition was fine. Bike
Comments: I struggled with many of the "hills" and the wind felt strong to me, but I think it was only about 5 - 7 mph. I averaged better pace than I thought I would and much better than most of my practices. I was discouraged a couple times during the bike and thought I was making awful time and considered just quitting. I was mentally discouraged when I saw 13 - 15 year olds pass me on the bike section. What would you do differently?: Mentally get in the game better, drink water, and not look at the ages of the people passing me continuously. Transition 2
Run
Comments: The run for me was a walk almost the whole time. I felt tired after the bike but I think it was more because I didn't drink any water during the bike. I sprinted a little bit but I was feeling the effects of the bike. At the very end, I found some energy and did run across the finish line. What would you do differently?: It was mental that I couldn't finish strong. My legs were fine and breathing controllable after the first minute or two of feeling winded after being on the bike. But I was just mentally fatigued and couldn't push myself faster. A huge strength to the folks that just kept telling me to keep going and I'd get there. Post race
Warm down: Walking around the park with my daughter and friends was my warm - down. Oh, and then going to Incredible Pizza and chasing kids all over the play area. What limited your ability to perform faster: My mental ability to keep telling myself I was still doing well while people passed me was my main limiting factor. And I needed to use the water bottle I brought on the bike. Event comments: It was the best time that I'd had in practices. My bike (which felt awful) was actually a really good pace and better than anything I had done in practices. My run was much slower than I should have been able to do when I consider my practice time. The swim was slower than my practices but still decent for me. Last updated: 2009-10-19 12:00 AM

I drove an hour to get to the race area, so waking up about 4 am was NOT fun. And doing so with a husband and 9 year old daughter in tow was probably not that advisable. I did have my typical breakfast and drank plenty of water.
I did some light jogging on the race route to warm up but then promptly felt like I hadn't done anything because I was too cold with air temperature at 55 degrees. I waited until the last minute possible before leaving the transition area to take off my pants and long sleeve shirt.
