Pre-race routine:

Listen to music. Didn't stretch as much as I should have.
Swim
  • 31m 37s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 30s / 100 yards
Comments:

felt really good on the swim. Pulled back near the end thinking about the rest of the race, but with the wetsuit I felt much better than I anticipated
What would you do differently?:

Swim in a straight line!
Transition 1
  • 02m 14s
Comments:

Just needed to be faster.
Bike
  • 2h 45m
  • 56 miles
  • 20.36 mile/hr
Comments:

Not sure what I could have done differently about dr
What would you do differently?:

Didn't finish my 16 and a 24oz bottles. 24oz had a mix of Heed and Perpetuem in it. Also had a soft-flask filled with Hammer gel. Should have had some gel or perpetuem near the end. Also not sure if heed is necessary to mix w/ perpectuem if I have gel.
Transition 2
  • 01m 37s
Comments:

Took time to put socks on for the run. I don't think my shoes are meant to be worn barefoot, so no regrets there.
Run
  • 2h 27m
  • 13.1 miles
  • 11m 13s  min/mile
Comments:

Just died on the run. From 30 seconds in I knew it wouldn't be good. Ran around a nine minute mile. Finally walked a few times.
What would you do differently?:

Train more for the run. Run further, do bike to run workouts all the time.
Post race
Warm down:

Walk around + recovery drinks.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not enough distance training, especially on bike and run. Especially on run.

Event comments:

I thought the race was extremely efficient and well run. I was confused on the end part of the run, and I think a lot of people were. I thought I just had to come back to the transition area, but you have to keep running past it, then come back. Once you're there you ran to World's Fair Park, that was easy enough to know. But they Olympic distance went straight to WFP, the Half had to go up one more three-tiered hill. I had no idea, and don't know if I could have figured it out by looking at the run course in more detail. I was surprised by it, I don't know if others were. Surprise at that point of the race was a lot to bear for me, especially in my first Half Iron distance race.
