Pre-race routine:

Goodbye kiss to F-O-H at 5:30am as he went to military duty(thankfully i fell back to sleep) then it was the 7am call to MAV and she arrived 20 minutes later. We went down for breakfast (scrambled, fruit, french toast, OJ & tea, 1/2 bagel with pb). BostonBeginner, FlytheBlueSky+Susan, Kevin+KathyG, trirific10, and KOM arrived in my room - maybe next year i can get a room with two bathrooms ;)
Event warmup:

It was too chilly outside to stand around so we waited in the lobby until about 9:45 then fought through the crowd to our corral. It's not easy being a back of the packer.

  • 13.1 miles
  • 10m 54s  min/mile
Comments:

It was warmer then expected so the speedskater hood came off at mile 2. I probably should have drank more - there was a lot left in my water bottles at the end of the race. I had 3 gels at about every 40 minutes - might increase that to every 30 next time.

KOM was an amazing pace car! we executed a '4 minute run/1 minute walk" plan to near perfection, we skipped a few walks and i know i went further faster because of it. The first 10 miles were awesome, once i crossed that 11 mile mark my brain and legs started giving out.
What would you do differently?:

Have a 2 week sinus infection in mid-Feb had me on the bench so i didn't get those last long runs in. Work the plan is the only think i could have done better.

The first 1/2 is out of my way and i can only improve from here.
Post race
Warm down:

Medal, hugs, H20 and 1/2 a bagel.... and handful of Advil followed by Beers and lunch at the British Beer Company with the crew mentioned above.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

KOM! But that's because i needed her! the plan was great and i'm sure i would have crashed a lot sooner without those early walk breaks.

Event comments:

I didn't stop at any of the water-stations but i over heard people commenting that there wasn't any 'fuel' and that would have helped them, especially near the end. (which is why i was packing).

Overall another great day with great people - even if the important one was cheering from afar.
