Run
Comments: You are allowed to draft for the first mile and I wanted to be near the front with the lead group. I blew it and clipped in poorly, so I chased my way up to number 5 but wasted way to much energy to get there and didn't get to do any of the drafting. Got my HR up quicker than I would have liked. Got passed by 4 going up the bridge but got 2 of them back on the downhill. Rode well after the bridge, definitely could have done better on this segment of bike. What would you do differently?: Clip in correctly, I spiked my HR at the beginning and that was dumb. Transition 1
Comments: Strange transition, you yell out your number as you dismount your bike and they hand you a bag with your shoes in it. You then run to the racks and put on shoes. I wasn't really speedy here but no issues. Bike
Comments: I was very pleased with my pace. At about the 2 mile point, I was caught by a 73 year old man. He ran the rest of the way with me and offered some excellent coaching on my breathing. The guy is name Wayne McSheehy and he is multiple time world champion in his age group. He was third last week in Hawaii. I was very close to my 10K pr pace and that was after the 9.2 mile bike ride. Very little ankle pain until the very end. Transition 2
Comments: just weird leaving your running shoes in the park, but they mysteriously return to you at the end of the race. Run
Comments: Very tough wind on the way back but I pushed hard and passed about 14 folks. Only got passed back by 1, the 73 year old world champion got me at about mile 7. I must have whipped him in transition (woohoo) Post race
Warm down: rode bike for about 3 minutes till HR went down. What limited your ability to perform faster: Previous days activities and food were not very smart and did a poor job at the start clipping in. Event comments: First, I love this bar. I have been going there since before I was old enuff to go there. The race course is about as good as it gets and the marines who volunteered were organized, polite, and didn't miss a beat. My wife said they were cute. I really think that is much more natural of a race then the standard run bike run. Ride somewhere, get off run around, then ride home. I beat my wife by about 4 minutes but she did good and won her age group. Last updated: 2005-10-16 12:00 AM

Before I start, the race is a reverse duathlon so the template is not correct. It is a Bike Run Bike so its gonna look funny in the report which is a Run Bike Run Format.
Bunch of friends and family in our old home town for a festival. 2 condos full of people and the night before we went to the festival, watched bands, and drank a few beers, oh and ate non prerace food.
Got our numbers, then gave them our shoes in a numbered bag. Did a couple miles on the bike to make sure all is working.
