Swim
Comments: I had been getting to 750 in my test runs these few weeks before the tri. I would have been happy having gone 700 on race day, so that I got to 800 is very surprising and I'm completely happy about it. What would you do differently?: Learn to do flip turns. This would have given me the ability to have gotten even further in these 20 minutes. Transition 1
Comments: We had a 10 minute break between each event. What would you do differently?: NA Bike
Comments: They set the resistance at level 10 for the entire 20 minutes. These are new spin bikes with odometers so I had no idea what I should have expected to have with regard to mileage. On the road I average 14-15 miles per hour. At the 10 minute mark, I was at 5.5 miles. I thought, "If I can get to 11, that will be awesome." I got to 10.9, which was still great considering I was really running low on energy and on Powerade the last few minutes. What would you do differently?: Take more spin classes. Transition 2
Comments: Ten minute break. What would you do differently?: NA Run
Comments: In tests of this time in the weeks leading up to the tri, I was at 1.9 miles for 20 minutes. My goal was just to get to 2 miles, so having gotten to 2.12 was a big win. I had the incline at 1% for the entire run, just like I'd had in practice. I'm just more comfortable there than dead flat. What would you do differently?: Run more on the treadmill and do speed work. Post race
Warm down: Stretched a little and got into street clothes. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not doing speed work. Event comments: There were 15 participants overall and 4 of them were girls. There was no age group separation. Awards went to top female, top male and overall winner. Each event was to see how far you could go in 20 minutes. My heat did the tri in complete reverse. We ran first, then biked and then swam. Honestly, I didn't think it was any more difficult than had it been "normal." Of course, it was only 20 minutes per event, but it still was not as tough as I'd expected. Upon first calculation, they announced me as the female winner. I was completely surprised by this. I had done very well on the bike, but the other ladies were beating me in the other events. So, after feeling pretty good for a half an hour, they realized they'd been calculating the points wrong. I went from first to third out of four. I was a little bummed, but honestly, that's about where I expected to fall and I came out beating myself more than I'd anticipated so it was a great race for me. Having "come in first place," however, has helped motivate me to get faster. Though it was only thirty minutes of "victory," it was a great thirty minutes. For their first run at this, it was a very well organized event. Becky, my friend and the event coordinator, is a triathlete, so she had it down! Everyone had a great time and it was so great to see so many people try one for the first time. Last updated: 2009-11-21 12:00 AM

As usual, drank a couple cups of coffee and ate a bowl of oatmeal.
Walked/ran on the treadmill for about 5 minutes to warm up so that I could stretch. Then, I stretched.
