Swim
Comments: Found a good spot 3/4 towards the middle about around the front. Got off without getting hammered and moved into a draft group around 200M. Stayed with that till the turn and swam in clean water on the return trip. Transition 1
Comments: What a long run to the changing tent and to the bike. It was nice to get my legs under me and warm up a bit. Struggled getting top on as well as compession sleeves for my legs. What would you do differently?: Swim with more of my gear on. Took too much fumbling around getting the stuff on. Bike
Comments: Started up the first loop in a comfortable gear. Realized a tailwind by the time I got to the top. Loop 2 was going well until the return trip. My seat fell 2 inches twice within 5 miles. It took about 15-20 minutes to fix total as I had to fight with the carbon wing to get the wrench on. Got lucky on the 2nd fix as it occured under the bridge just as the rain hit. 3rd loop was crazy windy coming back into town. Speed dropped down near 15 the whole way back. What would you do differently?: Not much I could do with the seat issue. I had it serviced and checked it during a training ride prior. I need to carry a different tool if I am going to ride with the carbon wing. Transition 2
Comments: Went as a smooth as possible. What would you do differently?: Not much. Run
Comments: It just fell apart here. I ran the first 7 miles just fine, but my hands started tingling just after that point. I was concerned about low blood sugar and adjusted my nutrition and fluid consumption, with no avail. Every time I tried to run the tingling would get worse. So the 18 mile walk began. First 10 miles of that went well at 15min miles, then blisters formed on both of my feet and broke open. Still mustered a power walk the last 2 to keep the time under 14. What would you do differently?: Not sure what happened here. This was new to me. Never had any issues like this during training. Any thoughts with just the tingling hands? Post race
Warm down: Just did an Ironman...no warm down. Went back to the hotel, ate some pizza and watch the live feed as the last few finished. What limited your ability to perform faster: Hyration on the bike, tingling hands on the run, blisters. Event comments: This was my first Ironman...looking forward to number 2.
