Total Time = 1h 14m 56s
Overall Rank = 49/227
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 6/20
Pre-race routine:

Cheerios & banana for bfast. Drove with my wife (competing in her first), cup of coffee on the way. Got there about an hour before race & scored prime spot on the bike rack. Hung out, went to the bathroom a lot, found my brother and some family and friends that had come to watch.
Event warmup:

couple of laps in the warm-up pool
Swim
  • 09m 42s
  • 400 yards
  • 02m 25s / 100 yards
Comments:

Really bad on the swim. Lots of work to do in the off-season. Was pretty discouraged at this point.
What would you do differently?:

relax and swim
Transition 1
  • 01m
Comments:

Great T1 - I think primarily because of the prime rack real estate (basically, right in front of bike entrance/exit). Only problem was trouble getting clipped in - wasted 10 seconds or so but it was out of transition area so showed up in bike time.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Bike
  • 40m 19s
  • 12.5 miles
  • 18.60 mile/hr
Comments:

I tried to go hard on the bike & was pretty successful. Only frustration was a stop when I thought I was off course. Corrected that pretty fast but it cost me some momentum and a little time.
What would you do differently?:

Be more confident in the volunteers and the course direction.
Transition 2
  • 00m 45s
Comments:

Pretty good on this one as well. Everything went smooth
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 23m 13s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 29s  min/mile
Comments:

Had a good run, for me. Kept reminding myself that this was the run I'd have to remember all winter so I pushed as hard as I could.
What would you do differently?:

nothing other than get a drink before I start - I got pretty thirsty but I don't think it hurt performance
Post race
Warm down:

grabbed a gatorade & banana and then watched for Catherine (wife) to come in off the bike. Cheered her in on the bike and then ran with her. Her first event of any kind in a couple of decades - she did great.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Poor swimming skills. Strength on bike and run

Event comments:

Had a lot of fun with family and friends. Met Aaron (heard someone say his name & had seen him with flag swim cap - figured it out). Met a couple of other people & promised to say hello at next years events.
