![]() Swim
Comments: Before the start they mentioned swimming through the two buoys "that you can see there". I couldn't see them due to my positioning. Why I didn't find them, I don't know. As a result, in an attempt to get away from the mass of arms and legs I went way out of my way. When I realized I was on the wrong course, I changed course and cruised pretty well. The water was very cold but I did well. Took 5 minutes off last years swim time! What would you do differently?: Find the correct course! ![]() Transition 1
Comments: I was so wobbly coming out of the water that I was reluctant to mount my bike while moving, so I just straddled it off I went. Riding in transition is helpful. What would you do differently?: Mount the bike the right way. ![]() Bike
Comments: I was disappointed that I was unable to keep up with the draft lines. This is usually my strong leg but I didn't have it. My pace felt okay but I think it was slower than last year. My bib number was unattached on one corner and very distracting. I just didn't have a good time. What would you do differently?: More bike time, consistently. Work on power and speed. Drink more. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: Unattached bib number stayed unattached, no big deal. My legs weren't all there and I feared quad cramping yet wanted to run fast. Hopeful but doubtful at the same time. What would you do differently?: Nothing, it was all fine. ![]() Run
Comments: I wanted to run fast, I could see it happen but I couldn't make it happen. My quads cramped again in the last mile but I kept going. Before I saw the finish line, Brent and Sara told me it was right around the corner and I was able to pick up the pace. At the very end I really picked it up and was able to pass a woman who had previously passed me. That doesn't happen very often, that I pass someone else. Turns out she was in my age group, yeah me! My legs were shaking when I crossed the finish line. I felt very whimpy about that but there was nothing I could do to change it at that moment. What would you do differently?: Run faster. More work on the bike to strengthen the cramping muscles, continue to work on run. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Stretched legs, walked a bit, drank Cytomax What limited your ability to perform faster: Cramping legs and no friends. I really didn't have any fun in this race. My mind and heart were not there. I think that if I were having a good time I would have done better. And more training always helps Event comments: Last year there was an elite division and I finished 6th in my age group. This year, no elite, took 5 minutes off my time and still finished 6th. I'm happy with this considering the competition and my state of mind but it was a little disappointing. Last updated: 2005-10-20 12:00 AM

Got up at 4:45 to shower and get dressed. Didn't sleep well then found one of the hooks on my bra was broken. Bummer way to start. 4 year old Sara got up at 5 dressed and ready to go, wanted me to do her hair, help her color, etc, and all I wanted was quiet. Not quite the start I was looking for. Picked Pam up at 5:45 and we headed to the race site. Checked in, set up transition, ran a little, rode a little then put on wetsuit. I was a little more time crunched than normal, but it wasn't too bad.
