Swim
Comments: one of the better swims I've had. 2:13 is the same pace I swam at Cranberry, but held it for another 600 yards. had good pacing, and felt good coming out from the water What would you do differently?: just need to work on form. off season goal to get under 2min/100 for next season Transition 1
Comments: this includes a hill climb challenge that took a lot out of me. I had some minor trouble with my suit. I knew it was going to be a long day, so I took my time What would you do differently?: wear bike shirt on the swim. I had the pockets loaded with gels, and didn't think of that. it made it harder to put the shirt on. Bike
Comments: before this, the most I had done was about 40 miles on the bike at one time. this was a hard ride, and I still need to work on maintaining a higher average speed. I also didn't eat nearly enough. I wasn't hungry on the bike, but the lack of Calories would come back to haunt me What would you do differently?: better nutrition plan (should have been closer to 1500 calories on the bike -- actually got about 800) more work at higher cadence (90+) and longer training rides (50+ miles several times in the month before the race) Transition 2
Comments: the lack of nutrition started to hit me here. I was lightheaded and gave a lot of consideration to giving up. but I'd come so far, and had three hours to run it. I went out to see what I could do What would you do differently?: better nutrition on the bike, especially in the last 30 min Run
Comments: this is where my day fell apart. I was off pace bu about 1 min through two miles, and got worse after that. my nutrition was way off, and I missed my 15min/mile projection by a long shot. I knew it was going to be close to make the cut off, and in the end, I was over by an hour, but I was determined to finish it out. What would you do differently?: better nutrition on the bike, more bricks, more miles on the road Post race
Warm down: stretching and water post race What limited your ability to perform faster: lack of training. I was barely trained up enough for the Oly two weeks before. I know this was going to be hard, but I wanted to do it as a learning experience Event comments: This was the best run of all of the races I've done. the RD (Jeff and Kat Donatello) were amazing. when I was told I wasn't going to make the cut off, I was very disappointed, but determined to finish none the less. they checked me out on the course several times, bringing water and Gatorade to make up for the lack of aid stations at that point (though two aid station stayed open just for me!) and even set up a finish for me when I got back. The volunteers and RD, and everything about this race was awesome Last updated: 2009-11-30 12:00 AM

Early wake up (3:30am) and on the road just after 4. Normal routine though -- early to bed, got up, packed the car, breakfast of PB on bagel and some fruit and OJ. Mixed in more water to sip in the car.
no warmup just stretching
