Total Time = 7h 08m 17s
Overall Rank = 1624/
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 280/350
Pre-race routine:

Boarded the bus from Dopey lot to the event area. Ate my blueberry bagel and peanut butter.
Event warmup:

Did some jumping jacks and dynamic streches.
Swim
  • 58m 26s
  • 2112 yards
  • 02m 46s / 100 yards
Comments:

To the First turn buoy I did really well at stayign out of the close-to-bouy traffic. sighting was good and I hit the first turn close to the buoy but out of traffic. At the half-way point the buoys changed from orange to flourescent yellow and I could not sight them well at all. The last turn in to the beach I was way right of the buoys and had a hard time getting straight to the beach. Even though my time suffered and I had trouble sighting, I felt good on the swim so I'm rating it overall good.
What would you do differently?:

I wanted to swim this course the day before. The athlete packet said the course would be available. However, the rnagers were kicking everyone out of the water.
Transition 1
  • 04m 33s
Comments:

Long way from swim exit to transition area. Also, they wouldn't let you keep shoes clipped in to bike.
What would you do differently?:

Practice T1 transition with race equipment.
Bike
  • 3h 07m 13s
  • 56 miles
  • 17.95 mile/hr
Comments:

There were a good number of rolling hills in the course. First 30 miles was fun and I felt like I was flying past folks. The last 15 was flat and into the wind and I realized I pushed too hard on the hills and didn't recover on the downhills.
What would you do differently?:

Don't attempt so many passes on the hill and recover more on the downhills.
Transition 2
  • 03m 37s
Comments:

Couldn't get bike racked. All the bikes on the rack caused the middle to sag and I had a hard time getting mine in.
What would you do differently?:

Rack closer to one end to avoid sag.
Run
  • 2h 54m 28s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 13m 19s  min/mile
Comments:

It was Africa hot! As soon as I started run my legs started to cramp. Ran/walk the whole course.
What would you do differently?:

More bricks
Post race
Warm down:

Stretched and drank lotsa water

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Cramps and heat

Event comments:

It was a good race event. Good experience.
