Run
Comments: The first half of the race felt pretty good. I went out very conservative (since I really didn't train for this race I knew I had to be conservative...that and I"m having foot issues). I was suprised how decent things felt until mile 18. At mile 17 I was suprised to see that I was on pace to beat my time from last year. However it wasn't meant to be...I just couldn't keep running on that rt foot. I ended up walking a lot from mile 18. I never thought about giving up...but there were a few tears. Mainly because I was disappointed in myself for the lack of training, and also because that darn foot hurt so bad. What would you do differently?: Train and be healed (no pun intended) Post race
Warm down: Met my friend who ran the half, headed to her house to shower, then hit the road for the drive home (4.5 hrs) What limited your ability to perform faster: No real training for this race, and my darn feet (although the left didn't give me any trouble in this race) I knew going into the race I was not trained. I really had no business running it. But, I did. I was so upset with myself by mile 23 I decided I would not be doing another marathon. However as I write this (the next day) I am doing another marathon next spring and am looking for one this fall after my last tri. I want under 4, and if I was on target to beat my best (until mile 17) then I know I can do it with training. Boy what a difference a hug from your family and a night of sleep makes :) Event comments: This is the second year I have done this race. It is a great race, very well organized and very well supported. There are only two stretches where there are not wall to wall supporters. I really liked running the 8k on Sat and the marathon on Sunday. Makes for a very cool weekend :) I like this race, but next year I may do the new Tobacco Road marathon that is a new race at home.
