Run
Comments: I was able to start near the front of the huge field which helped me to get out quickly and settle into a good pace. Ran the first 3-miles at 7:16 pace. The cheering crowds were pretty big those first couple of miles which helped as I saw several friends. My 10K split was 45:20 (7:18 pace). I was well ahead of my overall goal pace (7:35) but I knew some long hills were coming. The longer hills started around mile 8. The hills combined with the miles started to takes it toll as my splits quickly increased. Miles 11 - 13 saw splits of 7:47, 8:02, and 7:50. The last 3/4 mile I was able to jump on someone's shoulder and have them pace me in. What would you do differently?: Run a couple more 12-mile runs in training so I wouldn't fade those last 3 miles. Post race
Warm down: Grabbed a couple Powerades, energy bars, and some bread and headed for the warmth of the convention center. Stretched some and put some warm clothes on and then headed out. Event comments: Overall a well organized, fun race with lots of cheering spectators. They had 2 live bands near the finish line but given the cold, cloudy day not many people stuck around afterwards. I woke up around 6:15 and struggled with what to wear. It was 25 degrees out and I knew at the most it would only get up to around 32 out on the course. I went light with just a wicking top and a lightweight jacket and some tights. I would much rather be cold for a mile or two than hot at anytime.
Dropped off my bag at the convention center and stretched in there. Headed out into the cold about 10 minutes before the start of the race.
