Swim
Comments: felt good on the swim. tried to keep up with kelly, but who am i kidding? my goal was to get between 1600 (realistic) and 1700 (best case), so this was fine by me! Transition 1
Comments: 10 minutes was just enough time for this transition. i think women racing in an indoor tri should be given a credit for the time it takes to squirm into a jog bra with a wet body. What would you do differently?: wear my jog bra in the pool. i did that last year, and i managed to get it on this year, but it was a battle. Bike
Comments: pushed it on the bike, but i didn't want my legs to be total jelly, so i didn't totally hammer it. i went up to 15 for resistance and hammered for about 5 minutes at 90 rpm, but most of the time i was around 10 and 95-100 rpm. was hoping to get between 8.5 (realistic) and 9.25+ (best case), so i'm happy with this distance. Transition 2
Comments: was glad to have this time to shake my legs out before the run, but it was still a lot of time. did some stretching and hung out with kelly, kris, and steven. Run
Comments: oh, the run did me in! :( my 5th time on a treadmill. i went slower on the run than i expected, 'realistic' goal was 3.25 and i was under that, BUT i was hurting - not my legs or my body, but my throat REALLY started to hurt at this point. i sucked on a ricolla between the bike and run, but it wasn't enough. i sounded like a frog by the time i was done with the race. that went away after i had another couple ricolla and a bunch of water, but its still hurting. i'm just happy i didn't fall off! i did attach the EMERGENCY STOP cable to my tri suit, and actually went too far back from it disconnected and the whole treadmill did stop for about :30 seconds (i'm a dork). i fixed the cord, disconnected it from ME, putting complete trust in my ability to stay on the thing, and started it up again with some embarassment. okay, that's my excuse as to why i wasn't faster on the run. yea, that's it! What would you do differently?: maybe run on a treadmill other than at indoor races. i don't know how people train on those things. ugh! Post race
Warm down: it was great to race with folks from bt and to meet nora and roger. we had a great post race meal at annie's parlour (burger and malt joint). we had planned on the loring pasta bar, which is a cool cool place (with a VERY COOL BATHROOM!), but they closed for 'brunch' at 2pm and it was already 2:30. so, annie's - which was fine, and inexpensive to boot. What limited your ability to perform faster: having a cold, being premenstrual. Event comments: my overall distance was 12.82 - last year i did 11.21, so i'm quite happy with the improvement. last year there were only 4 women (out of 52) who were over 12.80 the results took forever to go up last year, but hopefully they'll be up this week. again, i'm glad i met (most) of my goals, didn't get my period in the middle of the race, and didn't fall off the treadmill! hurrah! they don't post overall results for men and women combined, so i'm posting my results just based on the women. looks like i was 28th or 29th overall for men/woman combined (out of 125) pictures: the pool, roger and nora on the bikes, all of us: nora (norakramer), roger (rabkaman), kelly (kelpeng), me (autumn), steven (hikergerb), and kris (trigirlkris) kelly, i accept your thanks in advance for not posting any of the eating pictures ;) tri-u-mah gets a 5 because of the stuff you get - a NICE gym bag that says tri-u-mah (nicer than the one i got at minneman for placing last year - and EVERYONE got one at tri-u-mah), frisbee (not pictured), pen, lip balm (i think its banana boat, but it has the u of mn rec sports logo), insulated travel mug that says 'tri-u-mah', a cool plastic pizza cutter (also w/ the rec sports logo), a dry erase board (held by a very serious looking ella), and a race shirt. last year we got a lunch tote, pen, lip balm, adjustable cotton visor that says 'tri-u-mah' (shown in the picture), shirt. anyway, it was fun! a great start to the season! kelly picked me up in the big yellow truck at about 9am. we headed to the u, got checked in, found kris, got a quick spin bike tutorial, then headed to the locker room to get our transition areas set up. after that we found steven, and after a visit and some stretching, we headed down for our wave.
light stretching. sipped on some clif shot electrolyte drink.
