Run
Comments: Goal was the average better than a 7 minute mile. Went out pretty hard in the first mile, passed the mile 1 marker at 6:20. I didn't think I was going that fast. Not that I wanted to slow down but pace decreased during mile 2, passed the mile 2 marker at 13:30. Just tried to hold that pace for the remainder of the race. Got "chicked" by a woman wearing a Marquette T-Shirt about 75 yards from the finish (She was the overall female winner). What would you do differently?: Not sure as this was my 2nd 5K ever. Maybe go out a little slower in mile 1 so that there's more in the "tank" in the last 1/2 mile or so. Not sure if that's the best strategy. Post race
Warm down: Walked back to car, stretched a little. Drove home, took a shower, drove back to race site for awards ceremony (I was confident I was 1, 2 or 3 in my AG). What limited your ability to perform faster: Not sure. Just experience and training I suppose. Event comments: My first 5K after the Tri season (2nd 5K ever, if you don't count 1 season of HS Cross Country back in 1985). Reached my goal of sub 7's. After the 6:20 first mile, averaged a 7:08 pace the rest of the way. A nice bonus was the 1st place AG placing (Only 7 in my AG but a podium's a podium right? Event was well organized and fun. Will do next year. Last updated: 2009-12-17 12:00 AM

Got up at 5:30 AM, took a shower, ate oatmeal, drank some water. Drove to race location (only 10 minutes away, nice to have races this close to home).
Stretched, then jogged around for 1/2 mile.
