Swim
Comments: I ALWAYS seem to have a problem with sighting. Today was no different. The first three waves (I was in the third) got off before the chop started. I was on the backside when it started churning up. I thought that it was just all of the wake from other swimmers. Though talking post race to Kristy (kristyme) and Marcy (dodgersmom)they said it got choppy after my wave started. What would you do differently?: Got to, got to, got to, got practice OWS sighting. Transition 1
Comments: Actually felt T1 went really fast. Steve kept saying that I would beat him in everything expect Ts. Well, in T1 I managed to eek out exactly a one second advantage. What would you do differently?: Try to go without socks. Bike
Comments: I crossed the mat and mount lines and hopped on. Though when trying to clip in my pedal would not stay up, as if it had no tension. Tried that three times before I realized...DUH my chain dropped. Hopped off tried to reset the chain on the bottom of the gear and it dropped again. Set it up top on the second try and it took. Headed off to the dam top experience. The wind was crazy as we went over the dam. A very strong cross wind most of the way. I think it affected me some but I was still close to last years time (within 20s or so). Took great advantage of the hill coming back off the dam. Kicked the gears to big/small and had a hay day. The turnarounds went well. Did have some trouble staying in aero for awhile. I need to have the right arm pad repositioned as my right arm is rolling out. First race to wear the aero helmet! For the first time I was able to come out of my shoes before the dismount line. I dragged my shoe as I did have a slightly hard time getting it to swindle back up so I could get my foot on top. Only took a couple of cranks to do so. This made a terrific difference in the T2 time. What would you do differently?: Practice some more on getting feet ontop of shoes after getting out. Transition 2
Comments: I felt this was a VERY GOOD T. Running in the bike on barefeet was better than with the bike shoes. Everything came off well. Shoes and cap went on quick and easy. Though this is where I had to concede the T times to Steve. He beat me in T2 by 9s for a net of 8s. This close he will need to watch out. :0 What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: The was the most comfortable run I have had in sometime after the bike leg. Had a goal of being below 11:00/mi, but made it close enough at 11:07/mi. There was a short portion right before the aid station that I had a side stich, but it subsided with a slower pace and walking through the aid station. I walked through the aid station going out and in. Pretty much a very comfortable run. What would you do differently?: Keep trucking through the aid station since this was such a short run. Post race
Warm down: None What limited your ability to perform faster: Waking up late and frantically hurring to make it. Event comments: Get beyond the gruffness of Jack and you see a wonderful race director. He is anal about of lot of things, but when looked at closer they all make the race better for the racers. The only suggestion I would make is to have medals available though I understand that Jack may be trying to keep costs low to him and the racers. Maybe just doing them for AG and noobs. The freaking alarm clock didn't go off. Kristy woke up saying it was 5:54. It's 35 miles to the venue and the gates in were to close at 6:30. I said let's try it and got everything loaded up. I felt like the transition from sleep to having everything packed took less time than my Ts today. Had a blueberry bagle on the way. Got to the gate and traffic had not been closed off yet (YEAH!) Parked and got all of my stuff out and had to leave Kristy to make sure I got to T in time. Got everything setup nicely. Had to move some unattended stuff. Actually had enough time take care of business and yack some with Steve (doughboy). Listened to Jack's usual long winded spiel on don't do this or do that or you get DQed. Waited around for the first two waves to head out.
