Swim
Comments: I entered the water like I usually do, towards the back of my wave. I hate getting swam over top of, kicked, hit, etc. I took my time getting in and began swimming as soon as it was deep enough to do so. The first lap went ok. I felt like I was getting the panic feeling about half way through the first lap, but it faded fast. I tried to keep a steady pace, but had people drifting in front of me, which slowed me down several times. Lap 2 was much like the first. The water was pretty choppy due to the wind. I'm glad I experienced that because it will make a calm day seem that much easier. What would you do differently?: I need to start swimming without my wetsuit. Transition 1
Comments: I took my time in T1, but didn't think I took that much time. I'm always a train wreck getting my wetsuit off. What would you do differently?: Not too much. Bike
Comments: My gps had me at 25.28 miles in 1:23:13 (including T2). I was really derading the bike because of the wind. However, after completing the 1st lap, I was shocked that most of the wind was either a cross or tail wind (almost an even mix of both with headwind for a short period of time). Even in the harshest of crosswinds I was riding 17+. David Tri's past me just before we completed the 1st lap. We played leap frog during lap #2 and chatted back and forth a bit. I told him the friction wicks on his shirt were an unfair advantage. Good times! I finished the bike feeling pretty good and confident that my pace would be respectable (for me). My goal was to take it easy and never let my legs get close to muscle failure. I pretty much accomplished that goal. What would you do differently?: Nodda. Transition 2
Comments: I brought a trash bag and had my sox and shoes covered, which ended up being an awesome thing with all of the rain we had after I set up my transition area. I put my sox and shoes on and off I went. Official results do not have my T2 time. This time is from my GPS time - Official results time. What would you do differently?: Nodda. Run
Comments: This is my GPS time...........Race results had my run at 1:00:32. Not sure what happened there. I felt great out of transition, but my legs quickly began to tighten up and they felt super heavy. I just tried to keep my pace under 9 minute miles. One of my biggest issues on the run was all of the fluids I took in on the bike. I kept feeling the liquid slosh around in my stomach. That was not comfortable at all really. Crossing the finish line felt good! I was ready to be done. What would you do differently?: Nodda. Post race
Warm down: Walked around a little bit and talked to Amanda and the girls, who came along to watch me race. It's always nice to have them there with me! I helped tear down the transition area and headed home. Later in the evening we grilled out and I enjoyed some Corona's with lime. That combo hit the spot!! Event comments: I was glad the race didn't get cancelled. I had a blast racing and talking to everyone. It was nice to finally meet the Hohls and Btoes. NOTE: I deducted the 7 minutes from my run time and adjusted my overall time from what was listed in the official race results. Last updated: 2010-01-03 12:00 AM

Woke up at 5AM, had a protien shake and a cliff bar. Packed lunches for Amanda and the girls, loaded the car, and off we went.
Not too much. As I was going to head down for a warm-up swim, it started raining like crazy. Rumors began to circulate that the race would be cancelled or turn into a duathlon for all. We soon got the word that the race would start shortly.
I went down to the water where I saw bananatoes, Kate, and David Tri's. I must say the pink speedos turned a lot of heads. Chatted with them for a bit then got into the water for a little bit of a warm-up.
