Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:45am got dressed made sure I had everything, ipod, gel, powerbars etc. etc. Drove down to the race.... Ate 2 bannanas and 1 powerbar...arrived around 5:50am took the shuttle provided by Open Air MRI.... Checked in my clothes, keys etc... Pit stop..... Pre loaded some text messages on my phone to let the family know where I was on the course..... Such as (7 down 6 to go) ( 10 miles) (12 down ) and for the final straight away here I come.... My wife thought that was pretty cool...
Event warmup:

Did some stretching then look a very slow jog for about 4-5 mins.... I am ready to do my 1st half marathon.....

  • 09m 40s  min/mile
Comments:

Considering that I have never ran more than 8 miles in training I feel I did about as good as I could..... I am very happy with my performance today...
What would you do differently?:

I feel that everything went as planned besides that minor mental mistake of walking through the aid station.... I won't be doing that again...
Post race
Warm down:

Did a little stretching then walked around for about 10 mins.... Water, bannana and a couple of orange slices...

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Just that little waddle after the aid station.... beside that everything was A OK....

Event comments:

I had a wonderful day it felt good finishing well under my target time. I always enjoy crossing the finish line and looking over and seeing my wonderful family there cheering me on and being supportive of me....
Thanks Honey... Thanks Boo and Thanks Mom.. They always make me feel awesome come race day...

Performance: Good
My goal was not to get caught up in the excitement and go out at no faster than a 9min 1st mile.... nailed it 9:09 mile 1 and feeling good. Mile 2 more of the same 9:19 this was the pace I needed to keep to make sure I didn't BONK.... by mile 5 I was feeling strong at 46:36 I was on target... Mile 8 I had just made it to the farthest I have run in 15+ years but I was feeling strong.... Mile ten 1:25:46 this is when I realize I was not only going to complete my 1st half marathon I was going to break my target time of 2:20:00.... Mile 11 & 12 went fairly smooth... Then I hit the aid station just past mile 12 I decided I was going to walk through it make sure I got plenty of water to drink and pour on my head to cool me off (oops ) wont ever do that again it took me at least 400 yds to find my stride again and boy was it painful after my painful waddle I got my stride to just in time to hit the last straight away before the finish line... I picked up my pace and finished strong beat my target time by over 12 mins.... YES
Course: Fairly flat awesome views of water on both sides great course....
