![]() Swim
Comments: This was an awful swim. It was so crowded and hard to get a line that I had to start and stop multiple times and this lead to serious fatigue. After a while I started to get that "tight wetsuit" feel which lead to more anxiety. Normally I do this swim in just over 8 minutes so I am not at all pleased with this one. What would you do differently?: Start near the front of the group to hopefully get away from the other swimmers ![]() Transition 1
Comments: Slow T1 but I was not interested in speed here, just a comfortable change and not feeling winded right off on the bike. What would you do differently?: Nothing really ![]() Bike
Comments: Decent bike, although the wind was pretty strong. I was doing 22-23 with the tailwind and 17ish with the headwind and that dropped to 15 on the short gradual inclines. I felt pretty good on this, pretty happy ![]() Transition 2
Comments: Decent T2, took it easy and made sure to start my run comfortable and not breathing hard. Wanted to go slow at the start of the run and finish stronger. ![]() Run
Comments: I wanted to be wary here. I knew I would not be able to do a blistering pace (for me) on this one, just did not feel it and I have done very little speed training. Miles were consistent and dropped each time so I was happy with that. Finished strong with the best split on the 3rd mile (10:30, 10:03, 9:54). What would you do differently?: Running sucks, just get through it. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Easy walk to rest, get some water and food. Cleaned out the transition and hit the road pretty quickly. What limited your ability to perform faster: Training is not the quality I need right now. Seems I am just lucky to get anything in, need more quality workouts and start working on speed. Event comments: Always a good race to start the season with. Looking forward to doing Carlsbad in 2 months, I really want to improve on that one from year 1 where the run kicked my ass. Got to the race a little later then I wanted to. I thought I had plenty of time but the drive was longer then anticipated. I parked well away from the transition area around 7, but my age group went off at 7:45 so had enough time to set up and relax before the start. Got the spot probably the farthest from any in/out from transition but that was fine since I had an entire rack to myself.
Easy walk and stretch before the swim. Was hoping to go without a wetsuit but the water was pretty cold.
