Swim
Comments: First ows, first swim in a wetsuit. Went badly, but survived. Had a weird issue where I would swim for 10 or 15 strokes and then just hand to flop over. Wasn't breathless, wasn't panicking, but was probably trying to swim too fast and at the same time in an unfamiliar spot. What would you do differently?: Get to the lakefront at least one every two weeks, probably more like once a week, and swim. Transition 1
Comments: Don't have breakouts, but took my time. Had left my sandals by the beach, jogged up. Fortunately, wasn't disoriented at all as sometime happens after I swim. Suit stuck on the timing chip around my ankle Bike
Comments: Time includes T1. Horrible ride. Simply not in shape for hills. Had a 10-15 minute mechanical problem with my front wheel and front brake getting knocked around on a rough patch of road half a mile onto the course. What would you do differently?: Train a lot more. I'm probably in shape for a flat 17-mile ride, nothing approaching this course though. Transition 2
Run
Comments: Was crushed by bike, nothing in legs for run, started cramping badly in mile 1. Did a 2min run/1 min walk most of the way. Tough course, but the bike was entirely the problem. Post race
Event comments: Overall, I just need to train more. I was hoping for something in the 2:15-2:30 range, which was probably possible with even marginal improvement and a lot more training volume. It's a start though. And hopefully an easy time to improve on next year. Last updated: 2010-01-05 12:00 AM

So this is what happens when you're undertrained. I knew I didn't have the base for this, after losing a couple months over the winter with a surgery, but decided to give it a run anyhow.
