Pre-race routine:

Got there early to watch the kid's tri which was amazingly motivational. Especially the young girl who had given the race 110% and crossed the line in tears but still smiling. It was fun to see the kids with bikes and other equiptment that was way cooler than mine! ;) Set up my bike and transition area and spent some time visiting and trying to stay calm.
Event warmup:

Just before the race started, I got into the pool and swam approximately 100m to warm up.
Swim
  • 10m 52s
  • 440 yards
  • 02m 28s / 100 yards
Comments:

I was not nervous until there were about 4 people in front of me to get into the pool, then it hit me and I was extremely nervous. I think the time I submitted for the swim was really about a minute slow, so I wound up passing about six or seven people. Which actually gave me a huge confident boost coming out of the swim portion of the tri.
What would you do differently?:

Submit a more accurate swim time, but besides that I was proud of my swim!
Transition 1
  • 02m 19s
Comments:

First off, it is very very cold to run out of a very warm heated pool and pool area outside in your soaking wet bathing suit. This did however, help me to run as fast as humanly possible to my transition area :)

When I got there everything was soaking wet, which really didn't slow me down too much but wasn't the most comfortable either. I thought I did okay on the transitions. Took time to get a good drink of Gatorade, and to throw on my tank top and shorts. Shoes, et cetera.
What would you do differently?:

Practice transitions more!
Bike
  • 1h 15m 52s
  • 13.4 miles
  • 10.60 mile/hr
Comments:

This sucked soo bad... Started out okay until you turn the first corner and then the wind was in your face basically the entire way back into town. At some points I was pretty sure I wasn't moving! I hadn't practiced nearly enough on the bike to be able to fight the wind. Then... it started raining, but it felt like it was hailing (someone explained to me that its becaues your core temperature is so warm, and the rain is so cold) but it hurt. All I could do was keep my head down and keep on pedaling.
What would you do differently?:

I think I did the best I could at the time, but I was not happy with my bike time. Next time, I will definately ride in all sorts of conditions to prepare and just put in more miles on the bike outdoors. Riding a stationary bike is nothing like riding outdoors on the roads.
Transition 2
  • 01m 1s
Comments:

I was sooo tired, unbelievably tired at this point. I put on my race belt, and then started running and realized I didn't know where the exit was!!! Luckily, some nice lady helped to point me in the right direction :)

**I would like to make an apology to the girl who was "just trying to be helpful" at the water station right out of T2, I did not mean to be rude to you, I was exhausted**
What would you do differently?:

Well, not get lost in the transition area might be a good start :)
Run
  • 28m 32s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 12s  min/mile
Comments:

I felt... strangely energized during the run! This time is amazing to me considering the other two events. Its a PR for the 5k, even compared to stand alone 5k runs. I was able to keep a good pace all the way through and even found some hidden energy to sprint to the finish line (thank you adrenaline).
What would you do differently?:

Well, I wouldn't hold onto the water cup for soo long! I did not want to throw down my empty water cup, because I am passionately against littering. So I held it till the next water station, and returned my empty cup to the girls there. Next time, I'll throw it down and maybe volunteer afterwards to help pick up the plastic cups.
Post race
Warm down:

Random Stumbling around, with people congratulating me on finishing. I wouldn't hold still for the poor lady who needed to take off my timing chip.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Was not prepared for the wind on the bike and riding an old, probably too small bike.

Event comments:

Despite the weather, it was a great race. I got to meet a lot of great people, and even some fellow BT'ers! Ten minutes after I finished, I called my momma to tell her that I was ready to sign up for another triathlon!
