Bike
Comments: Wow, I'm really surprised. I thought maybe 15mph since it is 24 miles. didn't push too hard so I'd have something left for run. It felt quick and went by fast. I'm starting to figure out gear shifting. I was resting on long down hills but in an easy gear so halfway up I could start spinning. This spinning took me way up hills that last year I'd have to muscle through very slowly What would you do differently?: nada, better than expected. much. Transition 2
Run
Comments: I stopped and walked plenty! I was monitoring my HR the whole way. First 3 miles when I got to 150 I walked for 10 seconds or so to lower to 143 or so. Miles 4-5 couldn't get my HR down to the 140s wihtout walking for longer than I wanted. Last mile 160s and there was no lowering it because I didn't want to WALK. Decided to run through the heat and fatigue to get me across the finish line faster!!! Just didn't feel like killing myself; I knew I was making my goal of 3:30. Okay, 11mph is better than I thought I would do (12mph) but still... I need to work on a bit more speed. What would you do differently?: I need to figure out nutrition. My stomach was growling on the run even though I took a gel per hour (as recommended by Hammer Nutrition), about 27 ounces of Heed through bike and first run drink stop. Also, I had to stop to go to the Ladies although it didn't take long. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: RUN, maybe knowing and paying attention to my HR, but then again I want to train my HR to drop. Event comments: My swim and bike were very comparable with the age group winners, but my run was 20-30 mins slower than theirs. OUCH. Last updated: 2010-01-12 12:00 AM
