Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:50am & ate bagel with PB and drank OJ. Met with my team in training group and headed over to transition. Got set up in T and went back to room to await my 8:30 start time.
Event warmup:

None
Swim
  • 34m 27s
  • 1800 meters
  • 01m 55s / 100 meters
Comments:

Per other race reports, i felt pretty good getting out of the water about my performance. While on the bike I figure out my time was more than a 2 min / 100m pace, which I didn't understand. An extra 300 meters on the course made my time make sense. No rubbing at first, but a lot after we turned around and starting heading back. A lot of swimmers from the other waves were clogging things up.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 1
  • 03m 39s
Comments:

still slow...need to work on it
What would you do differently?:

be a little faster with taking suit off/putting shoes on
Bike
  • 1h 12m 50s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 20.47 mile/hr
Comments:

A lot a folks on the course. I was constantly screaming "on your left !" and annoyed at the folks that thought they are too good to have say "on your left". I found the crowd to make the course a little more exciting
What would you do differently?:

Be faster on the hills
Transition 2
  • 02m 22s
Comments:

got a little better this time
Run
  • 1h 10m 2s
  • 6.61 miles
  • 10m 36s  min/mile
Comments:

Once again, the heat gets to me and I fall apart on the run. Felt good until about mile 3 and then I started slipping. BLST is going to interesting....
What would you do differently?:

Be more conditioned for the heat
Post race
Warm down:

Sat under the Team In Training tent and cooled down. Ate some PB&J sandwiches and drank a coke. Cool towels were a nice touch. Enjoyed post race meal at Pok-e-jo's !

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of heat conditioning

Event comments:

How do you blow the swim course by 300 meters and the run by almost a half mile ? I am glad it was admitted, instead of all of us saying the course seemed long. Anyways....I don't understand the 8:30 start time for the largest/faster group on a 4 loop course and I certainly didn't like the heat.
