Swim
Comments: I think I swam almost exactly the same distance this year as last year, which is good. My goal was to not do worse than last year, even though I haven't been training as well this year. So, goal met. I'm a bit confused by the distance though, because the lap counter told me that I swam 35.5 laps. So, 35.5 x 25 yds = 1775 yds. But, the results listed me as having swam 1.08 miles. Since a mile is 1760 yds, then 1.08 x 1760 yds = 1900 yds. So I either swam 1775 yds, or 1900 yds. I'm going with the lower number here. I remember this same thing happened last year too (but I listed the higher number in my race report last year :) ) What would you do differently?: Nothing, really. The swim is my strongest event. I could have pushed it a bit more in the middle I guess. Transition 1
Comments: Standard 10 minute transition for everyone. That was just enough time to get to the locker room, changed into bike/run clothes and get upstairs to the bikes. What would you do differently?: It went pretty well, so nothing much. Maybe wear the sports bra for the swim to avoid the struggle of getting it on when wet. Bike
Comments: So, I'm not a great cyclist; this is old news. My goal was to bike farther than I did last year, which I did. I did 6.9 miles last year and 7.12 this year. Not a tremendous increase, but an increase nonetheless. These bikes felt really tough, but maybe it was just me. What would you do differently?: Oh, just bike more. More time in the saddle to build up those legs. And not drink so much Accelerade. The stomach was getting sloshy there at the end. Transition 2
Comments: Another 10 minutes between events. Just drank a bit more and tried to stretch the legs before the run. Run
Comments: This run was a bit disappointing, but this is just where I am right now. The run is never my strong suit, and I have barely done any run training this winter due to the IT band, so I shouldn't be disappointed, but I am. I did 2.75 miles last year, so this year was a bit slower. I ran the first 20 minutes, but then had to walk for two minutes because the knee couldn't take it anymore. I ran again for minutes 23-30, but it was at a slower pace. What would you do differently?: Ice and stretch more in the days before the race. I took 3 advil the morning of the race, but it didn't seem to help much. I simply must get better about doing my PT. I get in the prescribed couple times a week, but obviously need more than that. Post race
Warm down: Walked around a bit and tried to find somewhere to stretch. The first group of us (me, Autumn, Steve, and Kris) got cleaned up and then watched Roger and Nora compete in their wave. Everyone did very well! Afterward we all went to have burgers and malts at Annie's. Yum. I managed to finish my entire gigantic malt, thankyouverymuch. (I believe I was the only one who did...hmmm... and I wonder why I don't do well on the weightloss challenges...:) ) What limited your ability to perform faster: IT band Event comments: This is a great way to break up the long MN off season! It's also nice to do a race that's a slightly different format. The goodie bag was fantastic too (as described in Autumn's race report). Great opportunity to gather with fellow BT'ers. Well done, everyone! Last updated: 2005-11-18 12:00 AM

Picked up Autumn at about 9:00 and we headed off to the U. I am a pathetically poor navigator of Minneapolis. Good thing Autumn knows where she's going.
We checked in, got a short tutorial on the bike, set up our lockers, got body marked, and then just hung out and stretched until our start time. We met up with Steve and Kris, which was great! Once the wave in front of us finished, I jumped in and swam 200 yards. That's about all we had time for.
