Swim
Comments: This is a huge race people wise and I had heard a lot about getting stuck in one of the last waves and race congestion. Before I picked up my packet I had considered asking for a 1st or 2nd wave placement but even though I have placed high in all my races ...this is only my 2nd tri EVER and to be in the same wave as the Elite and Pros..just didn't feel right quite yet :) After watching those 2 waves go off in the swim I noticed 2 things. 1) it was a mess of 100 people running/jumping over each other and then 2) half of them were not swimming the best. Made me feel better about my wave because I had an easier time getting away from the pack then I woudl have in that group. Back to my swim..took a while and a lot of pushing and shoving..in fact I totally swam over a girl that I know and apologized later for it...but got away from the group - caught a good rythem breathing wise...stayed right along the buoys ...made great turns ...on the way back struggled with the sun and not being able to see anything! I still stayed close to the buoys in fact so close that I ran into one of them :) What would you do differently?: Not much. I kept my kick slower than normal which even Bjorn noticed when he was watching - I think it helped save my legs but I probably could have upped it a little. Transition 1
Comments: No wetsuit saved me at least a minute here and I don't think I would have saved much if any on the swim if I had wore it. I did have to readjust my chip because it had gotten loose on the swim..probably when I kicked someone. What would you do differently?: I would like to learn to start with the shoes on the bike Bike
Comments: This is a hilly and technical course and I rocked it by my standards! I was really worried about how I could hang on the hills and I did fine. I lost time on the turns. There were a few sharp turns and a couple that came after a downhill where I braked too much. What would you do differently?: That day not much...in the future work on turns Transition 2
Comments: Not bad at all -I fumbled with something but I can't remember what it was.. What would you do differently?: Not fumbled with whatever I was fumbling with...if I can remember :) Run
Comments: Again a great run. I felt great coming off the bike but I knew what was ahead of me and I felt like I was holding off just a little --- maybe I could have taken it to a 6:35 or 6:30 pace but not complaining at all! Lots of comments as a I ran from other racers/spectators and racers who had already finnished about how strong I looked. What would you do differently?: Only saying average because I am a runner and I have the potential to go harder and faster. That being said I ran the same time I did at PP which was a flat run! Post race
Warm down: Big Smile and walked around talking to some of the other racers I knew..found my family and kids. Saw Jwebs, Terri and Clint who passed me on the bike. He has the cutest stuffed donkey that rides with him on the bike! Also saw Schmize and his little crew of cute kiddos! What limited your ability to perform faster: Experience especially on the bike. And I did get beat out of 10th female overall by .3 seconds that bites! Ended up 11th/431 females..so happy about it! Event comments: Midwest Sports Events puts on some great races. Lots of volunteers espcailly with the Pewaukee event (even some donkeys out there volunteering, DJ, Stacy, Nicole and Kim!). Pewaukee is one of the premier tris in the Waukesha/Lake Country area. I was pretty calm ...I had gotten the first race jitters overwith at Pleasant Prarie and I did the run portion of the Pewaukee course as a part of a relay last year....been to the beach plenty of times..driven the bike course which was the one part I was the most nervous about. Driving it with Bjorn pointing out every single hill didn't help much. :)
Got up at 4:00 - 25 min warm up on bike in basement - shower and off to the race!
I ran just a little bit cause I got there in plenty of time. I had a good space in transition positioned right between the swim in/run out and bike in - also in front so not a lot of extra running around in transition which helped. Used the bathroom and of course had picked the worst line that took FOREVER but still calm. Headed to the beach and waited for my wave. I was wave 8...out of 32! People were still swimming when I came back from the bike!
