Comments: Good swim, pushed the pace pretty good at first then settled in, good job sighting but ended up having to navigate through people quite a bit Transition 1
Bike
Comments: Good bike, had to continue reminding myself to slow it down a bit. 2nd loop felt more controlled than the first. Ended up drinking 2 full bottles of gatorade endurance and a 1/2 bottle of water What would you do differently?: Salt tabs!! Transition 2
Run
Comments: This is where it all fell apart. Both quads started cramping on mile 1 of the run. First quads, then left groin, then calves at the very end. The whole run was about cramp maintenance. Each aid station would get me about 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile before I'd start cramping again. Thankfully the aid stations were well stocked and frequent. sponges, gatorade endurance, ice, and pretzels were the way to go What would you do differently?: salt tabs! Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: Cramps! Event comments: This was my first 1/2 ironman and I am glad I finished it. I'm not sure if it was lack of fitness or because I had never done a race this long before that i didn't have my salt nutrition figured out. I had chunks of dried salt on my arms a the end of the race! I am happy that I had a good bike and swim leading into the run but felt I should have been able to average a 9 minute pace on the run based on fitness. Last updated: 2010-02-02 12:00 AM
