What would you do differently?: nothing. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Walked and stretched. I enjoyed Clyde’s signature post-race brunch of veggie goulash, chicken & bean soup, choice of sausage or chicken pasta, yogurt and granola, and fresh strawberries. Top it off with lots of beer that I don’t drink, thank goodness because the line was ridiculously long. What limited your ability to perform faster: side stitches after mile 4. Event comments: First time doing this popular local race and I was excited and tried not to think about the hills. I carpooled to the race 45 minutes early and met up with my group, the STARS (She Trains And Runs Strong). I ate my usual PBJ on whole wheat light English muffin with a cup of PowerAde Zero in the car. After waiting a few minutes for everyone we ran an easy 1.25 mile warm up. I kept thinking now I’m one of those people I thought was crazy running before a race and tiring themselves out. I warmed up and my legs felt good. I started the first uphill mile at 12:25 and was able to maintain thru mile 4 but after that I got really bad side stitches and had to slow my pace and breathe thru it before picking up the pace again. It was a hilly course but mile 4 was that everlastingly loooong hill up route 108. I took no walk breaks not even at the water stops. My chip time was 1:19:30.35; Gun time was 1:22:02.90. I beat my last 10K (Marine Corp 10K) by 13 minutes and on a much more challenging course at that. Last updated: 2010-02-05 12:00 AM
