Age Group Rank = 1/69
Pre-race routine:

not normal at all. walked from the wildnerness lodge. could barely get solid food down and got sick to my stomach just in time before the race. was sore from racing the sprint yesterday.
Event warmup:

hope and pray it doesn't hurt! no warm up for me.
Swim
  • 32m 34s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 32s / 100 yards
Comments:

I've been working on my dolphin diving and sucking it up trying to swim hard the first 200 m. It worked! got off the front but couldn't get a good draft from anyone. Then ran into waves in front of us shortly into the swim. lots of sighting and weaving to avoid hitting people but the speed suit was key. Shut down my kick since I was tightening in my calf half way through.
What would you do differently?:

nothing.
Transition 1
  • 03m 3s
Comments:

frustrating getting out. line of people and narrow walkway. had to walk it.
What would you do differently?:

nothing. went well.
Bike
  • 2h 30m 7s
  • 56 miles
  • 22.38 mile/hr
Transition 2
  • 01m 38s
Comments:

went really well. found bike easily and was on my way. no problems.
Run
  • 1h 44m 58s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 08m 01s  min/mile
Comments:

boy, struggle all the way. started off at 7:15's and it felt great. no hip pain. but the heat got me by mile 3 and I started dialing it back. lots of salt sticks and gatorade/water every aide station. I knew my stomach wouldn't tolerate a gel so I hoped that what I took on the bike plus gatorade on the run would suffice. Had to walk the aide stations on the back half. was trying to stay in the moment and not get too excited I was winning! not the split I was looking for but not bad for how hard I rode and how ridiculously hot it was. I'll take it.
What would you do differently?:

I think that was the best I could do on this day.
Post race
Warm down:

jumped in the lake and tended to my wounds.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

HEAT

Event comments:

Every time I do disney I swear I won't do it again because of the run. but this was a huge breakthrough race for me and may become a favorite just because of that :)
