Swim
Comments: This is a self seeded time trial start and I put myself right where I wanted to be. I actually passed the two women in front of me. Had two not so good flip turns when I was trying to pass them, but still had a good one. Probably could have shaved another 5-10 seconds off of it. Out of the pool and Beth said I was out of the water in 6:31 which is right where I wanted to be. Down the stairs outside and across the timing mat. What would you do differently?: See up just a bit faster again. Maybe then I wouldn't have to worry about passing anyone. Transition 1
Comments: Didn't get the jump on the bike I wanted, but still, a nice fast transition. 21st overall and 3rd in AG. I'll take it. What would you do differently?: Get the pedals set for the running jump and actually get the helmet on a little faster. Bike
Comments: Out and going. I knew that the first leg was with the wind so I had to take advantage of it as much as I could. Looked down and I was going a nice 23 mph without trying too hard so I picked it up a little to get it up to 25 and tried to keep it there. The first turn back West and the wind hit. Hard. So I tucked it in and down shifted to keep the rpms going. Turned North and the cross wind was no where near as bad as last year. But it was still bad. Ok, one more time with the wind to make it a good average speed. Turned into the wind and new it was going to be tough again. However, this time, the legs were a bit more warmed up so the speed was a little better. But the speed wasn't nearly as good as I hoped. Still, I was passing one or two but also getting passed quite a bit. Into T2 and the wind fest was over. Now onto the run to see how the ribs are going to hold up. What would you do differently?: T.I.T.S. Transition 2
Comments: I and bike racked quickly. On with one shoe, then the other. Then one of the laces (yankz) got caught under the tongue. Started to fiddle with it, but then realized it was only a 5k and though, screw it. Grabbed the visor and race belt and I was gone. Still under 50 seconds. 55th overall and 5th in AG. What would you do differently?: Trim the excess yankz lace so it won't get caught under the tongue. Run
Comments: I knew this was going to be the unknown. When I started, my ribs didn't hurt too much, but by the time I got to the first mile, they started to ache. And not in a good way. Long story short, I did finish the race much stronger than last year. I did feel stronger over all, but the ribs were very sore. No where near as bad as Friday and there is hardly a twinge now that I right this on Monday morning. I was really hoping for much closer to 24-25 minutes but I guess it wasn't to be. Last mile was faster than the first two. So that, I guess, is a good thing. What would you do differently?: Not almost break my ribs a week before the race. Post race
Warm down: Walked around, grabbed some water, said hey to John (good to see him again), then went in to shower up. What limited your ability to perform faster: Very sore ribs. Event comments: Fourth year doing it. Still a very well run race, even if it was raining and windy outside. It will always be my kick off to my triathlon season. Last updated: 2010-02-14 12:00 AM

Drove down. Had a later start than usual because we were waiting on a friend to go with. He overslept and we had to leave without him.
Because we were late, I didn't get the warm up in I wanted which was a short run to test the ribs. So I only got in a swim, but at least that felt good.
