Run
Comments: The run was fun. I started a good distance from the actual start line because the crowd was enormous. I was hanging out with my son's best-friend's Uncle Greg who was visiting from Boston. It turns out that we were both planning on the same pace so we hung out for the majority of the race. It took us about 17mins to get from where we were to the actual starting line. I felt great as I got into my pace and got some sweat going. As I checked my Garmin I was suprised to find that I was consistantly running slower than I expected with a pace of just under 11min/mile. I'm guessing my screwed up sleep schedule was partially to blame. I had to stop at the 2nd port-a-potty station to get rid of some water and coffee. The wait in the long line took several minutes but I felt much better afterward. I took just a little water at two of the aid stations. Water intake was just right. The real hassle of this course was dodging all the walkers and slow people the entire length of the course. I'm guessing lots of participants bolted out early only to walk the second half. And, of course, they would walk 4-5 abreast. This nearly made the course a zig-zag with all the dodging I had to do. This course is very flat until you get to about mile 5 where there are a few small rollers. Since the course is so terribly flat the rollers feel like much more hill than they actually are (at least they did to me). At mile 5-6 I started to feel pain in my hips and my legs started to get heavy. Also, the PF in my left foot really started to act up. I kept trudging through it and eventually Aloha Stadium came into view. I finished just over my expected time of 90mins. I'm happy with my results especially since I only decided to do this race 3 days before the event. What would you do differently?: Drink less coffee since I think this is what caused the port-a-potty break in the 1st half of the race. Post race
Warm down: The warm-down was kind of forced on us as we crossed the finish line at the stadium. All finishers were herded from the finish line across the stadium floor, out through one of the tunnels and around the outside of the stadium where we were given water, sports drink, Little Debbie Oatmeal cakes, bananas and our finishers T-shirts. After that we went into the stadium and hung out for a while. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not enough training, carrying too much body weight. Event comments: I expected a little more SWAG at the end of this race. I could have sworn getting a goodie bag with the typical do-dads inside. Not this year! The T-shirt and the after race refreshments were all we got. Last updated: 2010-02-15 12:00 AM

My sleep schedule is all jacked up since I work graveyards so I woke up at about 11:20pm the night before the race. I thought I'd mill around the house a bit, grab a bite and eventually go back to sleep for a few hours before I really needed to get up and get ready. Nope! Stayed up watching TV. At about 1am I ate some whole grain pancakes (was really good with bananas and raisins mixed in). Then at about 3am I had a couple cups of coffee and drank lots of water. Left the house at about 4:30am to meet my son and a couple of his friends at Aloha Statium (the finish line) to park our cars and then get a ride to the starting line.
No warmup. Had a small smoothie from Jamba Juice and just hung out and talked story with the guys before the start.
