Comments: Would have liked to bike, but what can you do. The wind would have been hard. Transition 2
Run
Comments: We were supposed to self-seed with the faster people starting first and people starting every 5 seconds. I put myself about a quarter of the way through. I started out and was not feeling in a groove but started to get into a pace. Passed one girl in front of me pretty quick. The trail through the woods is pretty hilly. I powered up the uphills and passed someone on just about every uphill. I guess the training on the hills in the subdivision helps. When we ran by the lake I saw that it was pretty calm and wondered why we could not have had the swim. I pressed on. I finally got into a groove when we got back onto the paved trail and street for good. I ended up passing about 8 people and no one passed me during the entire run. Every time I looked at my Garmin though, it said I was going over 7 minutes or 7:30 per mile. I must have only looked when I slowed down because my average was very good. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Train harder for a 5k, but I was not expecting it so I am happy. Post race
Warm down: Walked around and stood at the finish line with Kim cheering on everyone else. Had some food and waited for the awards. I finished second in my Age Group so I can't complain about that. What limited your ability to perform faster: Specific training for the run would be helpful. Event comments: Great race. They could not control Mother Nature so they did the best the could under the circumstances. Last updated: 2010-02-17 12:00 AM

Woke up at 5:30 so I could be out the door by 6:00 and to the race by 6:30. I still had to pick up my packet after all. Got there fine and started getting ready. That's when the rain started. After a short break, I went to set up my T2 area as it was right in front of where the car was parked. Put my shoes in a plastic bag just in case of more rain. WISE CHOICE!! I went over to the registration building nad waited. They started announcing that there were delays due to the lightning and the rain. New start time was 8:30. Waited some more. New start time was 9:00. Waited some more. New start time was 9:30. Waited some more. Then the announcement was made that the whitecaps on the lake were too high (really how high could they be on that small lake) so the swim portion was cancelled. Darn, that's my strongest part, but at least I could do the bike and run. The announcement continued. There were 25-30mph winds out there and due to the delay they lost the Sheriff for course control so the bike portion was cancelled as well. The race would be reduced to a 5k. Oh great. I'm not ready for a speed event, but I paid my money so I'll stay and do it.
Ran a little bit, but did not feel good.
