Run
Comments: This was my first stand-alone half marathon. I had an excellent run and felt great throughout. I tried to pace myself at 9 minute miles and did a pretty good job. My heart rate was way higher than I expected but that was probably due to the warm temperature. A nice event that really brings out the entire Long Island running community. Good organization and course. This was a personal record for me compared to the half I did as part of my half ironman. My goal was to break two hours and I was really happy to do so. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Maybe start out a little slower but it all worked out in the end. If I had to go another mile I would have been in big trouble. Post race
Warm down: Got my medal, my goodie bag, wound my way through the exits, found my wife (who also ran and PR'd) and made our way home. Event comments: It is great to have a marathon/half-marathon basically in my backyard. Enthusiastic crowds and good organization. Maybe a couple of extra water stations would have been nice due to the warmer than expected weather. Overall, an excellent race that I can see myself repeating (either the half or full) in the future. Last updated: 2010-02-25 12:00 AM

Woke up. Got ready. Had a bagel and some Gatorade during the drive to the start. Great that this race is 20 minutes from my front door.
Hung out by the car until about 10 minutes to the start. Then made the five minute walk over and waited for the start.
