Swim
Comments: Great temp. Clean lake. Was nervous about no wetsuit, but did OK. A little harder toward end since I intercepted the Sprint waves. Crowded on the way out. Freaked out a little when I hit lap split as I was coming out. Noticed HR was 180 plus. At first thought I overdid the swim, so committed to slowing down. Later found out avg HR was much slower. That must have just been tachycardia related to coming out of water and standing and running. Transition 1
Bike
Comments: Definitely pays to get familiar with course ahead of race. I really paced myself since I didn't now what to expect. Worked out great cause I almost ran out of gas on run. What would you do differently?: Ride course ahead of time. Transition 2
Run
Comments: This is were I suffer. Took two miles to even get in rhythm. Again impending feeling of hamstring cramps (thankfully never happened). By the time I got comfortable I was really low on gas. Tons of people passed me. I just tried to keep consistent pace. At least I got a good sprint on last 100 yards. What would you do differently?: For sure this is an area I need to train much more. In reality my pace was not that far off from training pace. I'm just a slow runner currently. Need to get better. Post race
Warm down: Frozen towel. Cold shower. Gatorade, pizza and watermelon. What limited your ability to perform faster: I think I performed accordingly with my training so far. Just have to keep at it until I improve. Event comments: What a great event. I chose it based on previous reviews from BT site. Did not disappoint. Every good comment made about the race is right on. Some volunteers approached me after race just to ask what I thought, what I liked and what they could improve on. I couldn't thank them enough. These people were up since god knows when just to help out. Would for sure do this race again Last updated: 2010-03-02 12:00 AM
