Swim
Comments: After not being sure how this was going to start, I think it worked out well for me. I was out to quick for not having any real warm up and started to get winded a little bit. I decided to breath a lot and alternate sides as needed or to help sight. The sighting proved the biggest problem but it wasn't a problem really. I just needed to sight more. After hitting the turn around buoy I made my turn and decided to sight a bit less. BIG MISTAKE!!! I ended up off course and looked up just before a course volunteer tried to steer me back on course. I am not sure what this might have cost me but it probably cost me at least 1 place in the swim finish. There was only the first 250-300 yds. to be able to draft because of the TT start. I did draft some for this portion but it was unintentional. I wasn't thinking about it while on the feet of the 2 other swimmers I was behind but they undoubtedly helped me. I eventually passed them before the first buoy. I seem to have placed myself in the line well as I wasn't passed much (that I noticed) until the retard error listed above. What would you do differently?: Sight MORE! That's the biggest thing but I would definitely warm up before the next race. The lack of warm up may have cost me some over the distance because I wasn't prepared correctly. Transition 1
Comments: I actually needed to put my shoes on in transition. I had problems with my watch. I forgot to set my watch to "auto multisport" and it cost right at the beginning of the bike. I took some precious time to get my watch right and accidentally started a "run" instead of "multisport." I didn't notice this until about 1.5 miles into the bike. I made the correction but my Garmin data will be off. I hammered the bike harder than I intended to and I think it worked out well for me. I avg. 20mph and I was hoping for 18mph. My HR was much higher than the targeted mid 140's (154) but it felt very good almost all the way. What would you do differently?: I would not have taken the time to get the watch right while dismounted. This helped me drop up to 3 places in the overall results. With out question it cost me 2 places. Next time I will deal with the watch on the road and save the time for the overall results. Other than this I am very pleased with the bike. Bike
Comments: I think I was on a little bit of an adrenaline rush for the race because I was able to sustain the faster speeds after the run and I felt pretty good. Some of the hills were just big enough for me to get out the saddle so I didn't get saddle sore since I am not used o the tri shorts. All in all I was happy with the ride. There are only a few things that I think would help me with race riding....a new bike (not gonna happen), an aero helmet, Oh, then there's that training thing. What would you do differently?: Nothing really. It went well. Transition 2
Comments: This was the best I thin I could have expected. This went as smooth as I thought it could have for a first timer. What would you do differently?: Nothing I can think of now. Run
Comments: Tough is about all I can say! I finished in my targeted pace range but I would like to have been able to go faster. I think the 5k and half marathon paces I have run gave me a little higher hope than I was capable of today. My plan was to go under control for the first mile and then try to turn it on after that. There was nothing left to turn on! Now that I can look at the real data, I was able to run almost exactly the same miles in the same areas on this out and back course. I am actually pleased now that I have looked at it. I think this was a very difficult course and I think I ran it as good as I was prepared to do. While I am a little disappointed I didn't run faster, I don't think I could have. What would you do differently?: Trained a little better on some hills somewhere or maybe on the treadmill. Post race
Warm down: My typical cool down......walked around What limited your ability to perform faster: I might have been a little better if I had fueled at the beginning of the race. I was nervous enough that I didn't get the fuel in the transition area. Event comments: The only reason I place I think the event could have been organized better was for the "bike in' and the finish lines. They were not marked very well and I almost missed my turn into the finish area. There were 2 cones marking the turn but it was not clear what to do in each location. Volunteers were somewhat close but sometimes they weren't real helpful with what to do. I do not want to take away from them because they did a great job for the most part, It was just the 2 areas that I felt there were problems. Last updated: 2010-03-05 12:00 AM

What's that? This being my first one ever, the only routine I had was checking my race bag 17 times on the night before the race.
I didn't have a chance to warm up. I had forgotten to turn my Garmin on in the transition area and had to go do that and then head to the water. I wasn't sure how everything was going to work so I finished putting my wetsuit on and ran maybe 200 yds just to get the blood moving, but I wouldn't call it a warm up.
