Pre-race routine:

Bagel with peanut butter
Event warmup:

Got in the water to acclimate. Water temp was 62F.
Swim
  • 39m 2s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 51s / 100 yards
Comments:

My navigation was bad on the way back. I couldn't see from buoy to buoy.
What would you do differently?:

I need to get some prescription goggles
Transition 1
  • 05m 31s
Comments:

What took me a little while was playing with the Garmin. I was worried about the battery life lasting the race.
What would you do differently?:

Have Garmin set before the race. At the end of the race it had plenty of life in it.
Bike
  • 2h 47m 50s
  • 56 miles
  • 20.02 mile/hr
Comments:

Could have taken in a little more nutrition on the bike. I should have added in something solid during the first hour.
What would you do differently?:

Eat something solid. Bring a throw away gatorade bottle for the back bottle. Would be nice to have a clear bottle to see how much was left.

Got a little cool. Could have worn a wind breaker. Took on salt tablet and probably should have done one each hour. I was CRAVING salt at the end of the race.
Transition 2
  • 02m 56s
Comments:

I put the bike on handle bars first and it would have fallen if I wasn't there.

Had to sit to get my socks on. I felt like I was just fumbling trying to stand and get them on.
What would you do differently?:

Rack the bike using the seat.
Run
  • 2h 10m 50s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 09m 59s  min/mile
Comments:

I had some stomach issues around miles 8-9 but a porta-stop helped.

Goal was to run the whole race. I managed to run till mile 12 then a couple of walk breaks. Definitely an improvement but still the area with the most potential.
What would you do differently?:

Eat more solids on the bike to help fuel the run. I wanted to eat more on the run but I feel like it would have thrown my stomach more.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Bad sighting on the swim and not enough calories consumed during the bike.

Event comments:

I enjoyed the race. the fans were amazing on the bike. I couldn't believe how many people came out!

The only part I don't like is not ending at the transition area. It makes it difficult logistically for family and friends and going back to transition after the race is difficult enough without adding in a commute.
