Swim
Comments: Swim was much harder than I expected. It was only the 2nd time I'd tried a lake swim in the wetsuit. Most of training was in pool What would you do differently?: More swimming and more open water swims. Transition 1
Comments: Didn't really rush the transition. Both my son and I were pretty wiped from the swim. We took at minute to catch our breath after running to the transition area. I also ate 1/2 a banana and drank some water. What would you do differently?: Hustle a bit more. Maybe have the banana already peel and in 1/2 in a baggie. Bike
Comments: Felt really good about the pace and effort on the bike. Probably could have pushed it more, but since this was our first tri we didn't want to use everything up on the bike. Pace was a couple of miles faster than my hard training rides, so I was happy with that. Kept a pretty constant cadence through the entire ride. What would you do differently?: Probably shift into a higher gear and crank it more for a bit more speed in the middle part of the leg, now that I know I had enough gas left for the run Transition 2
Comments: I run in the Vibram Five Fingers and had a bit of trouble getting the toes in on the right foot. I had practiced this in transition practices, but just couldn't get that little toe to get in the right sleeve. Again, paused to drink some more water. What would you do differently?: Practice even more getting the Vibram's on fast Run
Comments: We walked for about a minute 1/3 of the way through as my son's calves were tightening up on him. I felt better than I expected after the first 1/2 mile, could have easily run the entire way. Enjoyed the run more than I expected. What would you do differently?: Set a bit faster pace earlier in the run, though over all I was pleased as my typical training pace is about 12min/mile. Post race
Warm down: Hugged the family. Took some pictures. Ate the rest of that banana and then packed up. What limited your ability to perform faster: Beside being 56 years old? And a couch potato until last July? Need to spend a lot more time working on my swimming, particularly open water swim. Riding a 20 year old Puch that I got off Craig's list Event comments: Hard to know how to rate these as this was my first race. The Buttar folks were very helpful. They conducted a Webinar on Weds. night before the race that answered a lot of questions. Definitely, got me hooked and we plan to do another one of theirs in July. Last updated: 2010-03-16 12:00 AM

Stayed with family at hotel near Moss Park where event was held. Up at 4:30AM. Had Egg McMuffin about 5:45 on drive to park with my 20 year old son who did the event with me.
Short swim mostly to get water in the wetsuit.
