Pre-race routine:

Did not sleep well the night before. Anxious as I put together the packets for my relay team. Finally laid down at 11:30. Did not fall alseep until 2:45. Alarm went off at 4:30.

Comments:

I was the third relay leg and go to my handoff zone at 7:05. I was a bit early as I did not want to be one of those teams that missed a handoff or made the previous leg wander around yelling out my name in the crowd.
So that meant a long wait. It was 52 degrees with 15-25 mph winds. It was cold as the wind cut thru me.
Once I started my run I was met with an awesome surprise. About 1/10 of a mile into it I hear my being called and I see my wife on the side of the road taking pictures of me. How she had made it from the start line all the way out to my location and to find me with 20,000 runners out there I will never know. Love that woman.
One good thing about this course it the fact that the hills are small and you have of a rolling effect than a steep climb anywhere. However once I came over the Lake Hefner Parkway bridge from Britton Rd I came head on into that 15-25 mph surging wind. Turning north into the teeth of it was the most daunting portion of the 7.3 miles for me. But luckily that only lasted about .75 to 1.0 miles. Then I turned around and headed south.
Once again a pleasant surprise as I nerared the relay exchange to see my wife, the family of our fifth relay leg racer and our 1st and 2nd leg relay racers there cheering me on.
After the handout we hustled to get to the fourth exchange to cheer on our runners. Then we huslted downtown to watch the final relay leg cross the line.
What would you do differently?:

Get more sleep. Try to relax and go to bed.
Post race
Warm down:

Did not stretch enough and it was hectic as we hustled to the cars so we could get to the next relay.
I did make sure to grab some water (Thanks Bobby) and get a handful of orange slices and Nutter Butters.
Did the same thing at the next relay station as well.

Event comments:

A top notch event. There is a reason it is one of the top 10 Marathons in America right here in the middle of Oklahoma.
Plan on doing it again, if not the relay then stepping up to do the Half Marathon in 2011.
