Total Time = 1h 55m 10s
Overall Rank = 186/547
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 14/33
Pre-race routine:

Up at 5:00 (didn't sleep well which is pretty typical pre-race anxiety) - breakfast consisted of a coke, Powerbar and a banana (didn't eat muffin.)
Event warmup:

Normal post-run stretch routine.
Swim
  • 18m 45s
  • 1000 meters
  • 01m 53s / 100 meters
Comments:

For some reason - they did not have a timing mat at swim exit. Fortunately - I clocked myself and know it to be 18:45. Could have been better without exit bottleneck - I wish they would do something to improve the swim exit (such as construct a ramp at the boat dock or something.)
What would you do differently?:

Nothing - good swim - I'm happy with this one.
Transition 1
  • 01m 43s
Comments:

T-1 time included run from swim exit - about 50 yards or thereabouts - not sure why it's not a more direct route (since it could be!)
What would you do differently?:

I really should invest in a pair of tri-shoes so that I don't have to run in bike shoes - that would probably speed up T-1 quite a bit.
Bike
  • 58m 30s
  • 20 miles
  • 20.51 mile/hr
Comments:

The head wind on the return was my downfall - speeds averaged 24-25 on the ride out and 18-19 on the way back. Still do not have depth of power to sustain high cadence in tough conditions.
Transition 2
  • 02m 12s
Comments:

2:12 - I thought is was faster than that. Must have been slowed pulling on socks.
Run
  • 33m 30s
  • 4 miles
  • 08m 23s  min/mile
Comments:

Started off run with stomach cramps - had to walk 2 short stretches in first mile. Aid station had HEED drink which miraculously cured my ills and enabled me to run the remainder.
What would you do differently?:

Consider a small bottle of HEED for T-2 and to take with on the runs - amazing results with GI distress.
Post race
Warm down:

Drink, drink, and drink. Walked around milling with family and friends.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Wind on bike, GI distress on run.

Event comments:

Strangly - there were no gels at the aid stations. I didn't bring any with me as I assumed they would be provided (they were last year.) Didn't see that one coming...
This may sound petty - but this race has the worst T-shirts of any race I've done. They run small and feel flimsy. I was optimistic they would improve over last year. Almost everyone is giving the dry-fit shirts and many give a finishers medal.
