Age Group Rank = 25/34
Pre-race routine:

Wake up and drink Boost. Drove the bike course with family and ate fresh raspberries the day before.
Event warmup:

Had a small run the day before. (30 minutes)
Swim
  • 45m
  • 2187 yards
  • 02m 04s / 100 yards
Comments:

Went well, for me. I had to be steered back on to the course by a kayak, as I was headed in the complete wrong direction at least once. Felt very good, and I have no serious complaints. I came out of the water quite happy with how I did. Anything faster than the cut-off is a win for me.
What would you do differently?:

More sighting.
Transition 1
  • 02m 41s
Comments:

Easy transition. Wetsuit strippers were nice to have.
What would you do differently?:

Not screw around trying to put on gloves.
Bike
  • 2h 54m 56s
  • 55.92 miles
  • 19.18 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt really good pretty much all the way. The climbing was not bad at all. There were a few guys that would blow past me on the downhills and I was suprised by how fast they would pass me. This was a bit confusing for me. Anyway, took the slow swim and positioned myself well in the land of Aero helmets and carbon to feel pretty good about the bike.

Stock P2Sl
What would you do differently?:

Drink a bit more to prepare for the run.
Transition 2
  • 03m 9s
Comments:

Full wardrobe change in the transition tent.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe not have a full wardrobe change.
Run
  • 2h 17m 15s
  • 13.05 miles
  • 10m 31s  min/mile
Comments:

Horrible cramps for first 10 kms. I ran the course and walked all the aid stations. Sponges were very good to have. I was suprised by how slow I was going, because my legs felt great. I have not trained to run in weather as hot as this, and it felt like I was running in a sauna. I mainly planned the run to finish, but I had a lot of juice left at the end.
What would you do differently?:

Hydrate more on the bike.
Post race
Warm down:

Hang out with kid in the pool. Nothing like a 2 yr old that wants to jump in to the pool for a good arm workout.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Cramps on the run. Poor swim navigation.

Event comments:

I would love to repeat this race in a couple of years. The bike was awesome, everything was very well run and I am proud of the accomplishment. This was an overall great experience.
