Swim
Comments: A great swim for me. Only my second OWS, and my first (Bartlett Lake Tri 3/2010) was a disaster, as I left the cold, murky water and chop force me to breast stroke and swim on my back. I was much smoother this time around, with my stroke being very consistent. No stopping along the course except to sight just once to one of the buoys, and it was not really stopping. Stayed outside most of the pack, and only had one instance where contact was made (my feet, another athlete's hands) What would you do differently?: Tighten up my route to the buoys. I stayed wide on each to avoid any traffic jam, and I could have come in closer to shave off a few seconds. Also, push myself a bit more now that I am more comfortable in the water, maybe try to draft a bit. Transition 1
Comments: T1 time was part of the swim time, but having checked my watch out of the water (23 mins), my T1 was about 3 minutes - a little slow. What would you do differently?: Put on sunscreen before entering the water and do not worry about toweling off so much. Bike
Comments: Hilly course was challenging, but I thought Bartlett was harder. Made great time in downhill (top speed 37 mph), but still need work on uphill (hit as low as 6.6mph on uphill). Passed some people, got passed - average I suppose. What would you do differently?: Train even more on hills (had prepared fairly well I thought). Transition 2
Comments: T2 time is part of run time (I think). Staff ran T2 as it was point to point bike. They got me my gear very quickly and I was in and out in good time. Had to bag up helmet and shoes, but time there was probably as close to having to rack my bike and change, so no loss or gain. What would you do differently?: Nothing that I can think of. Run
Comments: Needed to push harder here. Too careful with the rocks, and I had enough gas in the tank to push it and get a better time. Was too cautious overall. Pace on road was ok but again could have pushed it a bit. What would you do differently?: Go HARDER and trust my balance and footwork. Post race
Warm down: Had plenty of fluids (Gatorade) and a Muscle Milk (great stuff). Walked around quite a bit until the bikes and run bags were delivered - watched the awards ceremony and raffle drawings (Nuts, no winner here). Need to step out and talk to more people in the tri community and get to know people. I felt a little like a loner out there (my bad). What limited your ability to perform faster: Still getting used to tri sports. Each race gets better and better, and I learn both big and small tips to get better. Event comments: Love the Tribal Sprint. The staff is awesome, the venue is great, the course is challenging, and the entertainment value is excellent. Wish traffic was a bit lighter leaving, but you cannot have it all, can you? Last updated: 2010-03-25 12:00 AM

Could not sleep at all - too jazzed up for the race. Got up at 2:30, re-checked my gear and bike. Had cereal for breakfast (odd for me) at 3:30, then had a gel about 30 minutes before the race with a 5-hour energy shot.
Stretched out a bit, set up T1 (T2 was elsewhere), spent time with Kym and Devyn, who honored me by waking up early and coming to cheer me on. Got into the lake about 5 minutes before start to get acclimated, swam about 25-50 yards and made sure goggles were sealed well. Waded out to start buoy to relax.
