Pre-race routine:

Woke up without alarm at 4 a.m. had breakfast. 1 whole egg and 3 whites, whole wheat toast, 3-4 cups of coffee. Loaded car with race equipment and family and down the road we went at 7:20 a.m.
Event warmup:

Warmed up in pool by swimming 2 lengths of long lane and on direction of short lane to exit the pool at end. Just to warm-up and relax and get use to pool temp and conditions. Felt good and I feel was a smart move.
Swim
  • 08m 40s
  • 440 yards
  • 01m 58s / 100 yards
Comments:

Nice swim. I was unsure of what to expect with this being my first tri. Jumped in and goggles filled with water and slid off of my face right away. Kept swimming and fixed at the end of first length. By the 3rd lap I wanted to grab the ankles of the man in front of me. Had frog kick and wide stroke which made it impossible to pass him in the middle of the lane. At lap 5 I just had to push past and take some kicks and slaps to get ahead. Wish he would have stopped and got the heck out of my way!!! 6th lap I was gassed thinking "what the hell am I doing right now?". Rested for about 3-5 seconds to collect myself and finished out as strong as I could. Happy with my results after I had a chance to see my time.
What would you do differently?:

Need more training with increasing distance and cutting down on rest time between sets in workout. As far as during this race I would have been more aggressive sooner with passing the frog kicker!! I feel that taking all the abuse with kicks and hand splashes took more energy away than I was expecting to expend!
Transition 1
  • 02m 7s
Comments:

Took a bit longer than I thought it would. I don't know how I would improve except with practice of putting on shoes and so on. With being wet it is just a different beast than putting on shoes dry. I was also winded from swim and needed a few seconds to catch my breath.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing at this point. Will practice transition at home some.
Bike
  • 46m 38s
  • 13.4 miles
  • 17.24 mile/hr
Comments:

Tail wind on the way out which made for a nice ride out and able to recover cardio from swim. Loved the rain. With this being my first tri I picked the one with some of the strongest winds and there were buckets of rain as well. Hey, it couldn't get much worse! Ready for #2.
What would you do differently?:

As far as readiness for the race I was feeling good about my speed. I feel I need more time on the bike. Increased time in training = decreased race time. Common sense!
Transition 2
  • 00m 46s
Comments:

Not clipped in so T2 was easy.
What would you do differently?:

Dismount was weak!! This needs some practice with jello legs and attempting to dismount a moving bike was not possible for me today. Will practice this over-and-over in the weeks and months to come.
Run
  • 24m 1s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 45s  min/mile
Comments:

Legs a little weak on bike dismount. At or about 1/2 mile my legs kicked in and felt just fine...well as fine as could be considering. I am more of a runner than swim/bike person so I felt better on this leg. Found myself smiling at a few points. Passed at least 10-12 people and that for me is a huge booster for a finish!!
What would you do differently?:

Run faster of course! Other than that I was stoked about my results!
Post race
Warm down:

Walk for 5 min, drank water, and stretch as I talked with T3er's. Took some time to take pics with family (parents drove from Washington to see me tri). Ate some cookies and a Subway turkey/ham sub with all the fixins.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

With the training that I have completed I am very excited about my performance in this even. I have nothing but positive things to tell myself. I am proud of my performance fo sho.

Event comments:

T3er's have told me this is their favorite event and I see why. Well organized and plenty of help to show us the way.
