Swim
Comments: Results pretty much speak for themselves. This was horrible. The course was very poorly marked and I must have been zig-zagging all over the place, probably adding a good quarter-mile to my swim (there's no way I was swimming THAT slowly). My goggles were letting in water the entire time, which didn't help things. Transition 1

What limited your ability to perform faster: Don't really feel like writing up a report for this. Other than the run, which wasn't even that good, my race sucked. My swim time is downright embarrassing. Being one of the slowest swimmers AND in the last wave is a really depressing way to start the race- I was basically by myself until the run. Whatever. Thank god I passed a bunch of people on the run and finished OK. Event comments: Not a fan of this race. First, it is FAR out there on Long Island. Getting up at 3 AM (after four hours of sleep) to drive two hours isn't a great way to start race day. It also discourages friends and family from spectating- including my own. Other complaints (and these aren't influenced by my terrible performance)... Swim course was very poorly marked. Having one buoy a half-mile away to sight off of doesn't work. Volunteers on the race course were unenthusiastic and didn't offer a single word of encouragement. One guy was actually asleep on the side of the road. Thanks, dude. Also, for the $135 race fee, I don't think I got my money's worth. Compared to Tobay, the swag was crap (loved the race shirt, but the only other things in the bag were a tube of toothpaste and chapstick- weird) and the food was nothing special. For 135 bucks, something more than a bagel and peanut butter would be nice. OK I'll stop because I'm being bitter. To end on a positive note... The announcers were good and the volunteers in the transition area were good cheerleaders. Last updated: 2010-03-29 12:00 AM
