Pre-race routine:

Hardly slept the night before. Big storm came through the area and knocked out power to the hotel so no clock to tell me when to get up. Called the front desk at 2:30am for a wake up call at 4am. Of course it never arrived and I got up around 4:18am.

The usual coffee, and OF PB&J two hours before race time.
Event warmup:

Headed to transition around 5:30am to set up and then off to the swim start. Walking over the water was calm and I was happy (swimming is all new to me), within 15 minutes of the start the wind picked up in excess of 40mph. They delayed the start three times before cancelling the swim. I had decided to do this race as a warm up to the HIM the next day to get used to swimming in salt water...so big bummer here.

Comments:

With no swim start, the RD started the bike like a TT by rack. We ended up stepping on the mats and then holding until it was our turn to go. Used my GPS vs chip based on this. Kind of crazy in the beginning with so many people.

Goal was to go as hard as I could. I turned on my GPS and never looked at it. Result all Z4 which was perfect.
What would you do differently?:

Had problems clipping in at start....
Transition 2
  • 02m 7s
Comments:

Decided not to run with my bike because of the healing stress fracture.

Comments:

Again, turned on my GPS and went as hard as I could. Since I have only been back running a month with no speedwork after a four month hiatus for the stress fracture I was happy with the result.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Post race
Warm down:

Finished, grabbed two waters and downed them. Followed it up with a banana which I never eat. Tried to get super hydrated for the HIM swim/bike the next day.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing

Event comments:

The RD did the best he could given the weather conditions. Cancelling the swim was the right thing to do. Disappointed, but that's life.
