Swim
Comments: The swim wasn't too bad. I was a little slower than I expected, but I didn't push that hard. This was the easiest start I've had in that I didn't rush out fast. What would you do differently?: I've been doing a lot of TI drills but not much real swimming. I need to get more miles in in addition to drills. Transition 1
Comments: This was a nightmare. The chip stuck out almost an inch and I could NOT get my wetsuit off my ankle. I finally had to sit down and tug for a while and finally got it off. This was really frustrating. What would you do differently?: Put the chip under my wetsuit instead of below it. Bike
Comments: This was by far my worst bike segment yet. My legs were dead from the start. I shoveled a couple of yards of mulch two days ago and I think this wiped me out. The mulch was sitting in the driveway and I'm out of town this week on business all week and would have been in the dog house if I hadn't gotten it done. My quads were jello and my arms were real tired (no aerobars) as well. This was really discouraging. I was more than 2 mph slower than last year. I narrowly avoided total disaster when I slipped off the road into the loose gravel going downhill with the wind at 27 mph. I managed to stay upright and get back on the road. One interesting thing was a guy who passed me and then slowed down to chat while I had 15 seconds to get out of the drafting zone. What would you do differently?: I've been traveling, eating too much, and not riding nearly enough. I need to regroup. My [fifth] seat is still giving me fits, providing either numbness or hamstring pain depending on how I set it up. Transition 2
Comments: not too bad. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: This was on a par with the bike ride. I was 3.5 minutes slower than last year, and last year was MUCH hotter. What would you do differently?: I was just out of gas and in survival mode. A discouraging run. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training due to business travel, yard work two days before the race wiping out my arms and legs, gaining 5 -7 punods in the last month. Event comments: I'm going to buckle down and get back below at least 180 and train for a race in September. Last updated: 2010-04-02 12:00 AM
